Community college to MSU

So I'm interested in MSU. But I want to save as much money as possible. Have any of you/ is it possible to go to a cheaper college or community college in Montana while gaining residency the first year the have the credits roll over and go to MSU when I'm a resident? Thanks guys.

I know a lot of kids will just go part time (6 credits/semester) for the first year to cut down on costs and save money then jump into full time once they get residency the next fall.

This- gallitan college is always an option, but most people (including myself) did part time.

in the neighborhood of 11k a year, ~5500 a semester, for 12 fucking credits. total waste of money

look into getting your core requirements out of the way at gallatin, or just live in Bozeman and pay MT taxes for a year without going to school

I'll probably spend a year at gallatin if I can. Do the credits roll over easy?

I have not had to go through the process, but that is the word on the street. If you're really interested, I would get in touch with an academic adviser or the office of the registrar. There is probably someone at gallatin whose job is to deal with transfers to MSU who is worth getting in touch with. Have fun dealing with the bureaucrats

You also need to remember that the core classes you need to take have everything to do with how many credits you bring in from things such as AP/IB and your placement due to SAT/ACT and placement tests.

2 of my roomates are working and taking a year off to gain residency. Being a part time student is cool cuz your still getting some school done but its more expensive than just taking a full year off to work and gain residency

Should I go full time or part time at gallatin?

I have had a few buddies who moved here and spent a year going part time to gain residency. I agree with the above people it is way overpriced for parttime being out of state. If I was you, I would get a job at Bridger or Big Sky and ski and work for a year (to gain residency) and then go to msu. However if you dont do that I would recommend going to gallatin college and taking core classes from them (which as others have said is cheaper). BUT be sure to check and make sure they will transfer when you move to MSU.
