Starting touring set up?

This season i want to start to do some touring just mainly day trips then eventually overnight if possible maybe in the next season.

I already have a small dakine pack with a probe and a shovel but its really small. I am wondering what i need for a basic touring set up, i don't want a tech set up though.
Ideally im looking for a ski that i can ski at the resort every now and then but i can have some touring bindings put on so something not to to heavy im guessing.

I am still growing though so i dont want to pay a ton of money for something i might only have for two or maybe even one season. i used to ski race a few years ago so i do have a more aggressive style so to speak i want something that i can take high speeds and not worry about it chattering and feeling unsteady but i want something soft enough that it is still playful in the trees. I plan on trying to progress with dropping bigger cliffs my highest probably about 15 feet but only done that once i want to get comfortable with drops of 10 feet and maybe more.

I got into the park scene about a year and a half ago so only about one season in the park i also want to get better in there which will hopefully lead to my end goal of being comfortable on backcountry jumps so maybe a ski with not crazy swingweight and something that i could land switch would be cool i guess as well. I was thinking j ski's tune out but im not sure.

Sorry for big ass thread thanks for any help.

I am about 5'7 or 5'8.

TL;DR Help me pick starting touring set up, not super expensive. not tech.

Look at used if you are on a budget. TGR often has posts for slightly used or even new setups. You are going to want to factor in buying a beacon and pair of skins as well.

If I were in your shoes I would do the following:

Skis:
Atomic Automatic 109/Blizzard Peacemaker/Line Supernatural 108/Salomon Rocker2 108/K2 Pettitor 102

Bindings:
Marker Duke/Marker Baron/Atomic Tracker/Salomon Guardian/Tyrolia AAAdrenaline

Skins:
BD is my go to, but other like G3

Beacon:
Otrovox 3+/Mammut Pulse Barryvox/BCA Tracker2/BCA Tracker 3

pretty much this bang on!

I bought my first touring setup earlier this year with very similar ambitions as you, I ended up going with atomic automatic 109 with tracker 16s, and i'll be picking up some black diamond ascension skins. Already have a beacon probe shovel etc.

Thanks man! I have heard the atomic automatic is a great ski but in your opinion is it good for just using as a ski at the resort? like is it a ski mainly focused on touring or more so downhill performance. Also i think my dad may have a mammut beacon i could use also should i take an avalanche safety course i already know the basics and how to track andthings.

Depends on where you live/when in the season you want to do the majority of the touring. If you want to tour to get some fresh snow after the resorts have been tracked out, then yes. If you want to get out of the resorts just to see the mountains, probably not. It is a wider and heavier ski so you just factor that in if you plan on doing longer tours.

the volkl one is really only a pow efficient ski its got no camber so when it gets choppy out there you wont have near as much control. its also a pretty heavy ski so not ideal for going up. the atomic automatic 109 is easily my recommendation but if you want something a little bit wider i also really like the armada norwalk or for tail rocker the you cant go wrong with a good ol light as hell armada JJ

For skis you might want to consider the Faction 4.0 and even the 3.0 they are light enough for touring and stable enough for resort days.

For bindings the previous mentioned are all good choices but if you are cool spending a little bit of extra $$ and you want to save some weight take a look at the Marker F12. (as long as the din range works for you)

For touring you don't have to be a weight weeny but just keep in mind that it is a factor and should be something to consider.

If you decided not to want a twin ski for touring that is stable as all hell, just look at the blizzard 0G series this year

the 4.0 is way wider than you want for a beginner touring set up.. especially when conditions get variable or icey

The jj looks great as well i have heard nothing bad about it but will it keep up at fast speeds and cut through a bit of crud i mean not a ton i still want something that is fun and i can do some spins on and some cliffs ya know but for me i also love the feeling of just going really fast in some pow or something.

No. The JJ will not cut up crud if you want to charge through it. If you want a ski that can do that you will have to look for stiffer skis. Additionally a ski that wide for touring will have limited use.

Alright i think i might be picking up a pair of atomic automatics thanks man! any ideas of how they ski? they sound perfect.
