A new ski brand apperas on the horizen: MELT with a great concept

They made a great presenetation of themselves in the German freeski forum:

Their prices are great, but only problem for American skiers: they offically dont ship to North America.

Concept: They are building skis with a special base material, which is produced in southern bavaria, that allows you to wax your skis never again. It was widely tested and i think that it has a lot of potential.

I'm skeptical. I really don't think a ski that doesn't have to be waxed would be versatile in all conditions. It would probably stop in its tracks after -20F.

I mean when was ski wax invented?

Compare the phones they had then to the iPhone 6s.

Technology has definitely improved... so though I agree with being incredibly skeptical on this, its impossible to say that it could never work.

I do^^ I m not working for this brand. I just found their presentation in the German "counter part" of newschoolers and thought that i may share this with you.

I think its worth testing the skis, but i dont think that its a big deal waxing skis. For me waxing skis is like mental Yoga...

If the bases are actually faster then I guess I'd give up waxing. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I agree that waxing is like mental Yoga. My dog loves it and thinks it's his special time to hang out with me on the back porch.

Usually when we have a thread about a new ski company, it's just another company trying to get a slice of the pie without innovating shit, and people are still stoked and supportive. All they do is market it differently to try and make you believe they are different, but they're using the same technology and making skis the same way every other company already is.

I am stoked that a new company like Melt actually tries to innovate and do something different. We need more Melt in the industry right now, seen the new skis this season? Nothing to see, shit is boring.

Totally with you!

There is so much potential in smart and advanced materials. Ski boots are just one example where new polymers and new compound materials are already used in the ski-industry. Most sk-brands use carbon strings in their skis as well so why not use other advanced materials like Melt does and try something different?!

Im totally behind this company, their concept and ideas. Im interested where this is going and i am looking forward to hear more from this brand

Except its marketing BS, you can get away with not waxing any ski... In the same way you can wax any ski. The base materiel they are using isn't new and is already in use. If you understand how wax and bases work you will understand how this wont.

Most ski brands still use wood in their skis as its best thing for the job, the same way most ski brands still use UHMW Polyethylene for the bases, it holds structure, its fixable its tuneable and it can be rest without much hassle.

I thought the whole "bases have pores which hold wax" thing had been put to bed quite a while ago, but if this outfit wants to claim it as well... I'll assume their other claims are equally credible.
