Prores 422 changes color of my vid

so I was messing around with exporting and I found when I export a vid prores 422 my video looks different than when I export in any other format, anybody know what could be causing this? You can see in the photo the screengrab on the right is more crushed than the left.

the one on the left is prores 444 and the right is prores 422, exporting in other formats look the same as the prores 444

Both images look the same to me.

Can you provide more information regarding what your original media was shot at, and the software/workflow process you are using to export your media?

Ah yes, the good ol ProRes gamma shift.
First off, what application are you exporting from? First thing to check is that you have Gamma Correction turned off in the codec settings.

Yup, gamma shift, its an option when exporting.


Now the real question is, why are you exporting anything 444 or 422?

Ive got to export prores for my film class at the U, and i just tried 444 for fun, but where is that option in premiere? my export settings appeared to be the same for 444 and 222

also another question, would it make a compression difference if I were to upload a prores 422 file to ns or youtube compared to a smaller h.264 file would there be less artifacts?

It just takes 10 times longer because prores is so large, because the video player is just compressing your video anyways it doesnt really matter, everyone i know uploads h264 to an online video player.

RockNRoll,

I'm here to help! This issue can be completely different then just a "turning off" option within Premiere.

First off, what version of Premiere are you using? Are you exporting straight from Premiere itself, or are you exporting though Media Encoder?

What application are you using to view your ProRes file, Quicktime X? Have you tried viewing your ProRes file though a different application such as VLC, MPEG Stream Clip, or even Quicktime 7? Do you still see a gamma shift after looking at the file through other applications?
