CHORIZOwe all start as noobs at everything so i need some help. When i hot wax my skis i can never totally fill every scrap. They are not even deep cuts. What can i do to prevent this? Ps. I use a clothes iron to wax
Swandog7If you have core shots fix them with p-tex. If they are just scratches you have to hot wax them instead of waxing. Basically wax them about 4-5 times back to back. As soon as you finish a coat, scrape it after about 2 mins and re wax several times. i recommend this for new skis as well

tomPietrowskiscrapes in the base should be fixed with ptex as you say. Basically prep the base first. So any scratches and damage fix that first.
Next clean the base. Do a hot wax and scrape the wax before it cools completely. That will clean the base and make it good to wax. Only use cheap wax for this as you will not be skiing it.
Finally do a good hot wax. Leave it to cool and then scrape, brush and finish. You should not need multiple coats of wax if you do it right. Do it lots of times is just wasting wax.

tomPietrowskiall brushing a base will do is remove surface dirt. Its the hot wax which cleans the base. By scraping the wax while its still warm it draws the dirt you of the base.
Brushing is great after the final wax as it helps break up the surface and helps clear excess wax from any structure you have on the base.
Swandog7Thats what I meant, Ive heard people brush after hot waxing to get the final dirt hanging behind on the base. Its also good to do this after a regular wax?
tomPietrowskithe reason you brush is not to clean dirt away its simply to break up the surface after waxing. When you scrape even if you get most the wax off if you have a structure in the base you will still need to clear the wax out of this structure. If you leave it you may find your skis do not glide as well. For waxing, scrape, brush then polish is my system.
