So I play intermediate to advanced piano and beginer guitar, and as I'm improved my playing a lot over the last few months I've suddenly lost my ability to memorize the way I used to . a year ago I could sit blindfolded and walk someone through an entire song note by note. But now it just feels all scrambled in my head when I try and play with out sheet music. What's weird though is when I do have the music in front of me on a lot of songs I don't really pay much attention to it but, when I take it away I can't hardly play. This is incredibly frustrating so any help is greatly appreciated. plus k

what i do is learn a section of the song, memorize it, move forward to the next part, learn it memorize it and put it together with the parts before it, and so on. this has been the way i've learned/memorized all my music that i play.
another thing i do is follow along with the sheet music while listening to the song. it really helps in learning how everything is supposed to sound and how each part moves with one another.

I went through a similar issue. I think it was just a combination or stress and practicing the pieces to much. I was spending two hours a day on just one song and the memorization was getting worse. Took a week off, didnt touch the piano, came back and was golden.
