Hi my names Matt, my parents are British but i grew up in Paris, Dusseldorf and Geneva. so i grew up skiing a lot, mainly in Chamonix. But when i was 18 i did a season in British Columbia and got my instructor ticket (and park and pipe)
i never worked as an instructor but i spent most winters working in bars in the alps (apart from a season in Sydney teaching sailing)
long story short... in November 2010 in a bar in London one night, i managed to fall 26 foot through a roof onto my head! 6 week coma and 7 months in hospital (in England so its free!!) when i woke up i couldn't walk, talk even move much. but i was back on my skis while i still needed a walking frame thing! skiing makes a lot more sense to me than walking!!
so after 4 and a half years I'm at uni (college) as a mature student studying sports journalism, to hopefully write about skiing/free-skiing.
i know the internet is a scary place (I'm not often on it!!) but i thought this would be the perfect place to catch up with people who know whats changed/relevant/worth reading about in skiing these days! I've watched a lot of ski movies the last few years, mainly msp, bit of level 1, poorboyz and other bits and pieces, but its very different! not so many full movies but more little clips and stuff!
my favourite skiers are CR Johnson (huge respect and we had silmilar experiences) Jacob Wester (nice guy, I've met since the accident and like his style, his segment in Claim is a favourite) Henrik Harlaut and of course Candide Thovex!
any help/advice would be appreciated!
