My parents got me my first car for my 16th birthday. 1985 Honda Civic for $1500. They got the car and I paid for the expenses of owning it. It was almost bombproof and it was awesome. I miss the days of filling up for $20.
I had a early 90s Toyota Truck. I wish I would have kept it instead of passing it on to my brother who wreaked it. It would still be running like a champ otherwise
1992 volvo 240 wagon, had it from early february 2013 to mid february 2014. Such a fun car, had a loud exhuast that popped and sounded kinda cool in a funny way, no AC but heat was HOT. The only problem I ever had was with the MAF which made it almost stall and would pop occasionally after almost stopping. Easy as fuck to control snow drifts with decent snow tires and a sand bag in the back. She rusted away, luckily it was $1000 from a neighbor....my 2001 crv is just.....awesome -.-
humpty2003 subaru outback that i bought for 2500 when i was 16. Still running strong. Those ej251s will last forever as long as you keep up with fluids
I drove a 2000 honda accord 5 speed for the past two years, I fucking love that car. I learned how to drive stick in it, learned the ways of driving a slow car fast, and learned how to do some very good handbrake drifting in snowy lots before school. It had a certain character to it, it was fun, it was a beautiful dark green, and it made good, raw, naturally aspirated noises. And now my younger sister drives it and it goes completely unappreciated.
Now I ride a bicycle because I'm poor.
Next I plan on driving either a late model Volvo 240, a second gen subaru legacy wagon, or a second gen ram 2500 cummins 12v with the bed converted into the best car camping shelter I can make.
But until then I shall ride my bike and annoy my friends who have cars
1990 mazda miata ragtop. it was mine before I could drive cause my grandpa left it for me when he died.
I had to sell it last year and get a functional car. it was a money pit and summer only but it sure was fun. similar to a go kart. one time the battery caught fire while I was driving it.
My dad let me use his '06 Mini Cooper (2nd car) for a few months until a valve spring took a shit and 100mi later the clutch plate exploded and cracked the bell housing so we just got rid of it. Then a year later I picked up a '97 2500 suburban for $1500 from my uncle. Great little car.
I got an 06 Jeep Loredo for my 16th birthday 7 months ago, but My older brother was the previous owner before me and wow did he own that thing. He really fucked up some of it before he left for college. Cant really complain about an 06. Has 122912 miles on it. I remember because I'm do for an oil change soon. First car was a 99 Volvo s70, loved it, had it for almost a year, then was rear ended on my way to school senior year, and got totaled. after i got the insurance money i found a gem on craigslist, my current car 1997 Volvo 850R Wagon. I love this thing soo much, got it for a great deal, and its baller as fuck. Like seriously, this car is the tits. Black with dark ass windows, dark grey rims, and its turbo as fuck.
Have had it a few months, with a super expensive repair but it was worst case scenario thing so its over with now (hopefully).
Engine mount broke, which caused a broken axle and cross threaded something in the tranny ($2500 repair, I'm broke as fuck rn but worth it to keep this car)
Volvo R's are such cool cars though, i think they're underrated with how awesome they are.
If you doubt it, Look up a black Volvo 850R and then see.
Stoked to throw some chains or snow tires on it and take it up this winter.
^^^^^ oh and, the S70 was like 3500 total (got $3700 in insurance), got the 850R for $2500 after talking the dude down, don't think he realized how dank of a car it was, they bought it for their adult son who didn't end up using it.

The first car I ever drove on a regular basis was a 2004 accord that got passed down to me when my grandmother got her license taken away from her.
She ruined the transmission on that thing though so I just had to buy my own real first car a couple months ago and I got a 99 Impreza wagon and I absolutely love her. It's an automatic and I wanted a standard but I only paid about $3500 and it had 82k miles on it so it was an amazing deal. Granted the previous owner had some terrible body work done but it's minor. It's embarrasingly stock right now but that'll change soon before the winter comes. I'll post a picture of her later.
Had a 91 miata that I slammed on it's nuts. It was cool to look at, but awful to drive in any weather not sunny. Changed my mindset and bought an 85 VW Vanagon to travel out of.
Bought an '09 matrix from family when I was 21 and I still have it. There is literally nothing exciting about it other than it fits a lot of gear and is a winter beast thanks to my snow tires and AWD.
On a somewhat related note. What car did you guys take your drivers test in? I got my first car at 16, but I took my drivers test in one of these:

Except it was blue and had a wheelchair lift in the back, which made shoulder checking useless and parallel parking a challenge. Still got it first try. /claim

I would honestly love that as a highschooler, get a mattress in there and make it cozy and make love to tons of honeys.

My first car was a 89 mk2 vow golf gl with the 5 speed. It had a glass pack and was incredibly fun for the month and a half I drove it before the drive axle came loose and smashed a hole in the transmission. Now I drive a 98 safari and that looks very similar to that. They are actually way more fun then I was expecting. Mine is the cargo trim so there is nothing in e back and it makes the weight distribution way better for drifting

That thing was great for bombing around in. Lots of room. Super stable. We lived out of town and on probably 5 miles of gravel roads. Used to drive way too fast with it (120km/h or more) on them, which was stupid. Good times...
In that same year my moms car flooded from a rain storm, our Alfa blew its clutch, roasted a head gasket, cracked the head, slave and master cylinders went out, piston rings fried and I think the fuel pressure regulator went out. It was not a good year.
