So this summer I decided to grow way too many Scotch Bonnet peppers. They're one of the hottest peppers around at up to 300,000 scoville units.
I started 40 plants from seed and now am beginning to be inundated with hot peppers. But there is a mystery pepper growing amongst them. 2 of the 40 plants I noticed had a darker foliage with an almost purplish tinge about them, but grew to the same shape and height and had very similar flowers.
Now the fruits are starting to ripen and I've noticed those on the 2 plants that were different have a different look to them. They're about the same size except are not so stout (grow narrower and longer) but also have a very distinctive roughish pattern to the surface.
left is Scotch Bonnet, right is mystery pepper:
I've been looking for a while through pepper pictures but the closest I can find seems to be something called Bhut Jolokia, or 'Ghost Pepper'.
