How to Make Sold Jumps Just Out of Snow?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but how do the guys in edits make such sold jumps just out of snow? Do you just put water over the snow?

Would you put water on it?
Making a jump out of powder seems impossible, but rn I'm watching Good Company Two and they got a massive solid jump while the snow's powder.

The specifics don't matter unless your making professional jumps for a mountain or something. Just use table salt and when you are about to pack it down and it will melt and harden a lot faster

Salt, blow torches, water....stuff like that, salt works the best tho!!

Really not going to do that much for you in powder. Salt is generally best saved for spring conditions. When things are wet, a little salt , and boom shit's all nice and firm.

For urban go with water or a propane torch.

For BC just keep packing it down.

And as mentioned above if you let it set for a while, preferably overnight, that makes a world of difference(doesn't really help ya for urban though)

Other option is using ice saws and sawing blocks out of the snow pack which is pretty easy to do and makes transporting it easy, can build more technical structures out it. An easier option is just use square hay bales and pack them around them with snow or empty pallets from recycling centers..

how exactly do torches work? id imagine it would be like the salt where the snow melts and then re-freezes but how does it just not melt all the snow?

Heats the now up, gets it wet, makes it pack better. And it would if you sat there and roasted it forever but you have a bunch of snow and you're not doing it for that long.

Powder snow is made of very fine crystals with thin, delicate arms, which creates large cavities occupied by air. that's what makes it feel like skiing through a cloud. Those crystals are very delicate and are easily broken, which is why skiing tracked out powder isn't as nice as getting the first turns. Shoveling large volumes of snow, as you would for a BC booter, also breaks down the fragile arms of the snowflakes and creates more contact surfaces between crystals. with just a little bit of time, about a days time, the structure of the crystals along the contacts will reform, creating new bonds between crystals.

So, if you want to build a backcountry jump, shoveling the snow into a huge pile and leaving it overnight before shaping it will both remove pore space and create bonds between grains, leaving you with a dense, coherent pile of snow without the use of salt, water, or packing.

I make a jump in my yard and I usually put water on it, and then a bit in the runway too. Salt is better but if you're too lazy/dont wanna spend money then just use water
