It is time consuming and expensive, expect to mess up your first pair, maybe even your second. Everything is that much more expensive if you have to buy tools. It is getting colder so you will need to either invest in heating blankets or a hot box or you will need to be able to work in a heated room. In terms of your own design, if you don't like the rocker profile it can be expensive to change.

With that said, if your heart is in the right place and you are doing it for the right reasons then it is completely worth it and rewarding when you finally make a pair you are proud of. You will learn a lot and will probably get sucked into making many pairs. Take the time and head over to the ski builders forum and the ski building thread on ns and read everything you can and make notes, the more time you spend researching the better prepared you will be and you will be less likely to come across a ton of mistakes.

Buy a CNC machine or make one. Makes things so much easier. Or just make a shit ton of jigs and templates.
