Elon wants to do it.

DrZoidbergI'd be a bit nervous about launching enough material for a bomb into space, on the off chance that it explodes in the pad or during liftoff. I know they've done rtgs before but they probably have less in them, and aren't made to blow up.
cobra_commandernuking Beijing could make Earth habitable again.
AnathemaWhat is the obsession with inhabiting Mars? We have barely even figure out Earth! 3/4 of the planet is water, but instead of try to conquer water and figure out a way to use it to our advantage, we choose to avoid is and decide it's a better option to just go to a planet with an uninhabitable atmosphere, climate, and geography.
Makes complete sense.
mmccarthy14we should nuke north Korea so we can live there next
sampsihoyosWarhead could launch it in two separate rockets, assembled it in space to eliminate risk of earth proximate blast. Besides they usually require an manually inserted pin to trigger detonation (separate lock from key)
sampsihoyosDeep in the ocean we know nothing about what lives there, so sit at your computer and argue. I'm going off to nuke the polar regions of Mars :)
03gadeI watched this and I just want a full scientific explanation of how nuking mars makes it livable.

JohnCenaThat is the most retarded thing I've read today.

a_pla5tic_bagSo wait the solar wind won't blow the newly created atmosphere away? Don't we need to restart the core to create a magnetic field?

Kooky_LukeyTheoretically speaking could he just nuke it? I mean no one owns Mars or anything. I would imagine he would run into some issues making the bomb, but say he does make a bomb would anyone be able to stop him if he decides he wants to fly a rocket up there and drop it? He obviously has the money and resources to do so.

californiagrownHe is a long, long ways away from having the resources or the ability to produce what effectively would be a fleet of missisles carrying nuclear MRVs. Like decades and decades away.

Kooky_LukeyWell yeah, I'm not saying he has the resources to do it tomorrow, but his company SpaceX is planning to launch 4,000 satellites just for the internet so I don't think he's that far away from getting to Mars.
californiagrownHe has been able to achieve low earth orbit... which is a bunch different from traveling to mars. But traveling to mars would be the easy part(realitvly haha).
the hard part is developing hi own thermonuclear weapons... both from a scientific standpoint, and from a no-fucking-way is the IAEA going to allow that to happen haha.
He'd have to get russia or the USA on board. No other country even comes close in regards to technology and capacity.

TheStamosHe put a satilite at the null point in gravity between the earth an sun. That's open space bud.
