No Kings Crown this season??

heard through the grapevine that PCMR isn't building any features on kings crown and instead focusing on 3 kings/pick n shovel....

can anyone confirm? That would blow if true

That'd be stupid.. although when I worked up there 11/12 season they did that. But it was because they didn't have good temps for snowmaking and never really got to hammer down on the piles so they focused on pick n shovel and 3 kings. Honestly wouldn't surprise me, but who knows what they'll do with it being under Vail's golden scepter

People blame Vail yet Vail Resorts host some of the best parks in the world. The times I skied PC before it was owned by Vail the park was real sick but always beat to shit. As if they didn't have a park crew (no offense if anyone is pc park crew). Place like Breck and Keystone have their lanes raked at least twice a day. I applaud how much they put into their parks. Whatever happens I hope the best for PC.

these rumors seem to come up every year. usually they build it for a big comp in February and then just open to the public. so they would either have to cancel the comp or move it to the smaller park. i would be super bummed if it didn't happen this year though.

theyre going to have at least 7 parks spread about between pc and the can. my assumption would be they are going to move kings over to somewhere else, but it would be dumb, its one of the best parks in the world to lap. you can clock it so many hits in a span of a few hours. tons of fun in that place, some of the best jumps you can find.

TBH kings is a decently terrible place for a park. One, it's on the lower mountain, so it gets slushy earlier in the year (refer to jonseys in 2008, in april its not a slush pile like kings/pick) and takes lower temps to make snow. Two, its a terrible run to make snow on, so much of the snow gets blown into town/into the trees, ive spoken with many of the snowmakers, previous and current, they say kings is insanely inefficient. Three, the pitch isnt that great. Its pretty flat at the top and the end there's a 90 degree turn and its steep as fuck. This creates longer inruns for large jumps, steeper rail setups at the end of the run and the upper features can be more difficult to hit when it's slushy due to the flat pitch/lack of speed. Fourth, kings is a terrible venue for a slopestyle event, spectators can't even watch from course, its a tiny little corral at the bottom. Having the Grand Prix in pick n shovel is 100 times easier for people to spectate.

That aside, the years of 3pack/4pack jumps on kings were the fucking shit. Also, if anyone wants to bitch about a park it should be about how they took jonseys out, that was the most legit spot for a park, period.

This isn't really a #fuckvail situation either, it actually has nothing to do with vail. The new park manager used to be the head park groomer, the head builder is still the same guy and i know a lot of the same crew is going back.

Like Theron said, there will be 5-6 parks spread around pc (canyons). Im excited to see what the park city builders can do over on the canyons side.

my pals dad works as ski patrol up there (lol) he said that they are not having that size of jumps up there this year because "there are very few people in the world who should be hitting that size of jump." He said that Kings Crown is no longer. :(

Also screw vail they just cut family passes for volunteer patrollers so now my friend won't even be able to ski Park City without forking out late pass prices. Vail can go die.

Vail builds the Burton US Open course then breaks it down before public can use it. Might not be a different story here

This makes no sense to me, PC is (or was) the only mountain in utah with a pro-sized park, let alone pro-sized jumps... there are so many people who ski at PC who rely on those jumps for dubs and larger spins, not to mention usasa big air nationals, isnt this just going to drive more people to Colorado resorts?

I wish PC would finally make a long park run. The resort is massive but there parks are tiny slopes that are crammed with features.
