Buying Gear in NY - Black Friday Advice

I everyone,

I live in the UK and am visiting a friend in the US in November. I’m going to be in New York over Thanksgiving and thought it Black Friday be a good time to pick up some new winter gear.

First question, am I right in thinking this? Or are the Black Friday sales a lot of hype for not a lot of discount? I know everywhere will be busy so if I am not going to make a huge saving I’d rather go shopping at a normal time to avoid the hassle. Shopping isn’t really one of my favourite activities.

Second question, I’m looking to pick up a Patagonia Nano Air jacket. Can anyone advise shops in NY that are likely to stock this and run discount for Black Friday? I read that Patagonia themselves do a swap event rather than discount sale items.

Third question, do any shops in NY carry Bergans gear? Bergans is a Norwegian brand and available from a couple of places in the UK, I wondered if I’d be able to pick up a jacket in the US?
