Starting to like my hometown

My hometown just got sketchier as I got older. I didn't help that I became a social worker and saw the worst parts of it too.

More alcohol is sold in my hometown (about 40000 people) each year than the two biggest cities in the province combined (over 400000 combined).

That said, it's pretty and close to lots of lakes?

I hear ya. Going home during summer vacay and reuniting with my highschool buddies is the best. My town has some great scenery that I can always enjoy when I visit my parents. I just can't see myself moving back home... My dad offered me his job and I just can't come to terms with moving back to my 30k pop. town. I'm dreaming of a big city with a lot more higher-caliber women.

I've always loved my hometown, and like OP moving away but still within the region has reinforced that feeling. I live in Brandon MB and it's a pretty little city that feels safe and has great people. It's not too large and has some fantastic country around it.

I'm moving to Portage La Prairie in a few days for some schooling and it's a shitty bust down town. Super sketchy people, lots of gangs and weird Hutterites/Mennonites ripping around. There's fuck all to do there as well.

I've also done some time in Winnipeg and it's alright. If you're with the right people it's decent but the rest of the time it feels like the place just hasn't left the 70s/80s. It's definitely got a dirtier feel to it and there are loads of weirdos in the downtown, I can never make it around there on foot without getting asked if I'm a dealer...

Prince Albert, Sk. I'm pretty sure a huge part of of that is P.A. is really the last city before the whole northern half of the province so tons of of the reserves and northern communities load up in town and bring it up north.

I get incredibly nostalgic about my home town sometimes. I get an urge to quit my job, get on a plane and move home. However, reason prevails.

I hated my town when I was in high school and I always talked shit about it. Now that I'm in college I miss it and realize my high school was just full of bad people. The town is actually pretty awesome.

At first i'll say that my little hometown was shit. I went to college in a big city, and then I realized that i was missing my tranquility.
Little town are the best

this happens to a lot of people, most people end up living where they grew up, it's what they know

I sometimes say I hate my hometown but its only because theres nothing to do in the town itself but in the neighboring towns theres tons to do especially near my middle school and high school, but those towns dont hold onto any childhood memories, theres 3 houses that were basically my 2nd homes that I get nostalgic about since 2 of them arent occupied by my friends anymore and I drive by them a lot. Plus our town was on Jon Stewart since we renamed an old pond to something else but it was before called "Jew Pond" and apart from a murder that took my friends moms life and almost took my friends to, which made national news for a bit its a good town, lots of old people. I love my town, so happy I didnt grow up in a big suburban neighborhood surrounded by rich assholes.

I have family in PA and up in Christopher Lake. Beautiful country. Great fishing.

That's awesome. Agreed that it's absolutely gorgeous up there. Growing up in that part of Saskatchewan definitely gives me an appreciation for the province that most don't have, but PA itself is pretty sketchy. Ha ha. I'm pretty sure we also used to have the highest teen pregnancy rate in Canada.

I live in Chicago right now but wanna go to college out and live away from here but every time I think about leaving I remember the connections that I have here involving family, music and art scenes, directions etc. and realize how hard going away would be
