Dress codes

I was getting lunch at a spot downtown that is a common nightclub on the evenings and weekends. On the way out there was a sign stating the dress code. Won't post it here, but to summarize:
-Hats to be worn forwards only
-No doo rags or hoods
-No visible tattoos above the neck
-No excessive display of jewelry
-No excessively baggy clothes

With this big movement lately in regards to racism and the equal treatment of everybody (how people get f'd over for not serving homosexuals), do you think dress codes should/will ever be targeted? Call me racist, but it seems like the above mentioned dress code does target certain demographics whether gang related or cultural.

I just don't get it

I went to a piano bar in downtown grand rapids where they insisted I could not take my hat inside as it was a "gang thing"

At the same time they neglected to check me for weapons and let a .45 stride on by

It doesn't sound racist to me at all. It sounds to me like they just want there customers looking somewhat classy.

From my understanding of the law, it all comes down to on the basis and whether it's protected under the law. For example your race, religion, sexual orientation are all protected under the law, so you can discriminate on the basis of that. Where as you are not protected under the law for wearing a snap back and flip flops.

As well people have a choice over what they wear, people don't have a choice over their race or sexual orientation. Now you could make a case that religion is a choice but why complicate things?

At my school chicks can't wear leggings or any 'overly exposing' clothing. I crie.

A racist dress code would look more like this:
- white dress and pointy hood required
- swastika must be visible at all times
- jews must wear yellow star at all times

My school doesn't have a dress code, something about letting kids express themselves.
