Is it worth it

Just watched the trailer for lack of a better and the question was asked about life when they're 60. Sean's answer was he doesn't expect much movement by that age. This got me thinking why? I get that is overstated they won't all be confined to wheel chairs by then but is it worth it. The satisfaction or money or whatever they are looking to get from shooting these massive urban hits. Is it worth sacrificing comfort later on in life. Say they settle down and start a family. How would it feel not being able to play with there kids because they can't stand the pain in their knees and back after half an hour of physical activity. Is it worth the constant arthritis pain and discomfort. Not being able to do simple things like not being able to bring in groceries because they can't handle the extra weight or do simple yard work because it hurts to bend and touch the ground. Should they be pushing the limits now but have to sacrifice later in life?

Yeah its worth it. You'll be drained of energy and arthritis ridden at that age anyway, might as well enjoy it.

Also OP, do you really think they'll be that beat up at that age? No they wont. They will be hurting, but not to that extent.

Just live your life to the fullest without being an ass and don't sweat what *might* happen down the road. Sitting at home trying to play it safe so you *might* be able to dance @60 is asinine, and totally missing the point.

i know plenty of people who have worked as laborers their whole lives and are just as fucked. there's plenty of ways to fuck up a body. on the other end of the spectrum i spent this past winter working for an 80 year old french/american ski pioneer. hes been going hard since before there were ski lifts and too this day still skis 6 days a week all season long. this past season he partially tore his Achilles (fuckin jesters man) but talking with him about it he has absolutely no plans of toning it down this next winter. if skiing is the passion then fuckin go for it, those feelings of fulfillment far outweigh any made up future consequences.

I almost never post on Newschoolers. However, I feel the need to say that this question is exactly what this movie is about. This is a real documentary, not a ski movie. There are no ski segments, just the story of our season, our lives as street skiers, and the battle to make a video part. If you want to know the answers to why and how we do this, or whether or not we think it is worth it, check out the film.

I didn't mean they do it solely for the money. It just was an example that fit with the rant. I know no one is getting rich off of video parts.

I guess it's still worth it! It's better to put all your energy now that you can still do it than regret later in life. Whether you like it or not, you'll get arthritis anyway. At least, you've already done your part. Who knows, being that active teens may help them get a healthier and stronger body resistance in their later life.

I really don't remember who said it or what it was in but a skiier was saying how he was dreading going and skiing urban because he always gets hurt and it's his only way of making money. It's actually really sad to see how something you love doing can turn into something you are forced to do and don't want to do it

You don't have to go balls to the wall and destroy yourself to have fun.

My parents are in their 60s and still ski/hike/mountain bike 4-5 days a week, like they've been doing for like 40 years.

If you aren't stupid, you can take care of your body and still progress and enjoy being out there, and do it for most of your life.

depends on how much you love the sport, i would rather have a great time while young and lively and having a boring old life than a shitty young life and a good old life because lets be real a good old life is still pretty shitty

I look at it this way. If I just sit around and try to be careful then it's pretty much a guarantee that I won't be able to ski when I'm old. They give out free ski passes to 72 year olds and my goal is not just to get the free pass but to be able to really enjoy it and get a lot of free runs. Sure I don't want to hurt myself but I need to take risks to have any chance of maintaining my ability to ski into old age. I guess this is something that everyone has to feel out for themselves.
