Replying to How do we represent skiing?
THIS POST IS NOT MEANT TO OFFEND ANYONE BUT CREATE A HEALTHY DIALOGUE ON HOW FREESKING IS VIEWED BY THE GREATER COMMUNITY.

Today I went to work at snowbird like most days and was called on my radio to come remove a large mess of garbage from our lots. When I got to the garbage I noticed it was all backpacks and very unique ski items. I was able to find Matt Heffernan memorial stickers along with Hood Crew stickers. The majority of the garbage was beers cans and alcohol bottles. About 100 cans!
The snowbird management had no clue of Heffs passing and we're quick to criticize his friends for littering and drinking so heavily. Never realizing the tragedy that such a young guy had died.
As a skiier I was caught on both sides mad at the resort for failing to recogniZe such a special guy but also mad at my fellow skiiers for acting so disrespectful.
Disclosure, I also work at Timberline and have heard upper management discussing how bad freestyle is for business.
I can't wrap my head around why especially older people have such a bad stigma towards freesking.
As they guy who is paid to clean the mountains in the off-season I'm furious at the lack of respect or care for the woods. Pack your trash!
Rant over:
RIP Heff! Pouring one out
