Small mountains with friends vs. huge resorts

Where i live the closest "mountain" to me is liberty and roudtop mtn in PA. Every season I have the best times there with friends I only see when i go skiing, but I'm always looking forward to my big trip out west to shred the gnar. Anyways which type of skiing do you guys enjoy more hanging around with fried or skiing at new challenging places?

I think I prefer a smaller mountain where I know everyone, but that is what I grew up with.

Well you get the best of both worlds but I'm kinda stuck with the small mountail with friends because I can't drive the only people who ski in my family is me and my moms boyfriend

^^^^ I cant drive either thays only part of the problem but I manage to find a ride almost every weekend anyway

Always love ripping roundtop with my friends and its cool because you see the same people shredding there every day so you kind of form this bond with them without even talking to them or knowing there name.

nothing can top skiing with friends... and overall i prefer smaller resorts. I'm from california and resorts there are either as crowded as can be or there is no one skiing at all... and overall, i ski the smaller resorts more trying to get in the most skiing i can, but if there is a powder day or i feel like hitting a bigger park i'll head to a bigger resort

I ski at a fairly medium sized mountain. You can roll into the park and always know at least 70% of the people in there, and you will probably know at least 40% of them personally. It's nice. You can always be like "hey what's up man" to anyone in the park and they'll know who you are.

I always love how that at my home mountain, crystal, you can be lapping through the singles line and just haveling a conversation with someone you don't know who is doing the same thing and talking about newschoolers and tricks and such

My favorite place to ski is this tiny place with five runs and not even a real park. Me and some of the guys that go there build all our own stuff whether it is rails and shit like that or jumps in the woods and then we just go and chill in the tiny lodge. Good times way better than Vail. Fuck Vail.

I ski at Keystone which is a pretty large resort, but even though its big and a pretty crappy mountain. Laps with the homies never seem to get old. We know all the fun locations and such, which just increases the stoke but its always fun to go and explore new mountains

But also no two mountains are the same so it's nice to meet new people and shred new terrain. If you can come out west, do so. Your homies will be waiting for you when you get home.

Except when your home hill is roughly 90 feet of vert. Pretty solid park given it's size and you can get roughly a million laps in a day, but I'll take an actual mountain over that any day.

Sadly no trip this year or for while as my sister is going to college and that's just a little more important then spending the money to go out west.

I honestly hope I can just ski at my home hill the rest of my life. I love the attitude of people at small hills. No yellow jackets, food isn't too overpriced, lots of memories, just so familiar with the quiet atmosphere.

Yeah, I feel you. My hill is 400 feet. I go out west for a few weeks every year and towards the end of my time there I always look forward to coming home. I love skiing bigger mountains but I don't know. There's just something about hot lapping with my friends here that I fucking love.

ripping around a little hill with friends is so fun, but always nice to take a few trips to bigger places. especially a place like roundtop, as long as the parks aren't shitty you can have so much fun

I like them both for what they are. I've lived at and worked at both end of the spectrum as well as some in between.

At the huge places you have a ton of terrain, huge park budgets, sometimes major contests, etc. At the smaller places sometimes ones that barely have a park you have the ability to meet everyone on the mountain and just tear it up even if you're riding barely any vertical.

I probably lean toward the smaller to mid range mountains though. If I was going to work/live some place long term I don't think a huge mountain is the place for me.

Also ski with your friends regardless of the size. Especially if you're a park rat it doesn't take that long to break things down and make the bigger places feel a bit smaller in terms of friends and good vibes.

I'm really lucky. I have a huge group of really good friends and we create new tree runs together every year with management's full support- going back on a big pow day with them and just crushing that stuff we worked so hard to make is easily the best feeling in skiing for me.

Even when we go to bigger hills it's fun but there's nothing like home. it's kind of funny too because our home hill (Magic) has a reputation as being a smaller hill but the terrain is fkn insane compared to the "bigger" places around- which are way more tame and filled to the brim with skitards.

Ayyy. Definitely a highlight of my season. Wish they would have maintained it a little bit better but thats alright. Crazy how sick of a vibe that park has compared to the rest of the place.

I've always skied alone so where ever I am is irrelevant but Id much rather rip around a big mountain any day than ski park no matter where I am
