Laptop

Gonna be getting a Laptop for college and need one that I can edit on and store a good amount of stuff on. Right now I use a Desktop. Dell Studio Xps 8100. Want something thats equal or better than What Im using right now. Pretty much know nothing about computer and laptops so point me in the right direction please and Thanks.
Current Configuration:
i7-860 @ 2.80GHz
8 GB ram
64 Bit
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz, 2801 Mhz, 4 core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

It obviously depends on how much you're willing to spend. I just got a Lenovo Y50 (i7, 16gb RAM, GTX 860) for $979. It's incredible, super fast, HQ screen. The only thing that isn't great is the battery life. Then again, if you're editing you're probably going to be plugged in. From lenovo.com it comes with Windows 8.


I love it, works super well.

Also, in my opinion a MacBook is overrated. You're paying hundreds of extra dollars for an Apple logo. The specs of my computer put to shame the highest performing MacBook for $1,500 less. Plus there are a lot more apps and usable software for Windows.

My bad forgot about budget. Looking to spend between 1000-1200. Max 1400. Only PC. Don't like macs.

Yeah that works perfectly. Check out http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/. There are a bunch of different options at varying prices.

I'll pay an extra thousand bucks for a touchpad that is actually functional no questions asked

The other 500 I'll pay to not have my laptop feel like it's going to fall apart everytime I pick it up

Macbook pros blow away any windows laptop in all areas of judgement. The only reason anyone gets a windows laptop is because its more affordable. You could buy a mbp today and if you weren't a shit head owner it would last you 8+ years.

In what ways (performance wise) are Macbooks superior? Just from some quick research the specs of higher end laptops blow away any of the specs of a Macbook. I'm looking at this from a performance standpoint, not one of longevity.

The overall quality of a macbook pro is leaps and bounds over any windows laptop.

Specs are specs, I didn't mean to say that macs were faster/more powerful they're just a better computer overall. 99% of the time people don't power/performance, they need longevity and quality.
