Skiingsnowobvious troll is obvious... right?
Nah, he has a good point.
From what I've seen, the kids now are so into competitions and throwing down the biggest tricks.
In their defence, I'll explain my skiing story. I'm bored at work so what the hell...
I learned to ski shortly after I learned to walk. Then I went through a local race program. Eventually I was racing on the provincial level (ON, Canada). It was also the most competitive thing I've done in my life (aside from some intense jenga games).
Racing as an individual wearing tight ass spandex on a blistering cold February morning isn't what most people describe as "fun". Staying up late to tune skis and waking up early isn't what most describe as "fun". My brothers, sister and I were all ski racers on the same team and we had an amazing time! People have fun doing whatever they want. If getting sponsored and trying to make a career out of skiing is what you desire, then so be it.
Racing never turned into anything for me. I wasnt the best, I wasn't top 10, occasionally I would finish in the top 30 and that was good enough for me. But hey, now I ski for fun with no intention to become a professional. I have a full time job and that pays for my skiing (and a lot more).
My ending statement is to all the young park rats out there. Hitting jumps and sliding rails are good fun, I can 4 on 4 out, backflip, cork 5, etc but I guarantee that nothing beats the feeling after you going flat out, unleashed, balls to the wall, top to bottom. If you're thinking "This guys a dumbass, I can straight line any hill but, that's not fun anymore" You don't know what I'm talking about. I dont like to see the new generation of skiers spending day in and day out in the park. Take your corked out spins off perfectly sculpted jumps to natural features. Test out your abilities on the real terrain. Try to link together as many perfectly sculpted turns as possible. Throw some spins off natural lips. The mountain is your canvas and you are the artist. Get out of there and shred the mountain like the animal you are!
TL;DR: OP is generalising kids these days and is wondering why they chose to live differently. Plan B: Giver'
