So I wanted to hear some opinions on the current state of bodybuilding. (from those who don't lift and aren't part of the gym community) Obviously there is alot of discussion going on in the community at the momment of whether the big stomachs should be allowed and it's only now about how big you are. Arnold said he would like it to go back to the old days of being the most aesthictically pleasing.
Spagett+You guys remember when there was that female bodybuilder on here and she posted a pic of her self posing and she was like "still think girl bodybuilders are gross" and the first response was just "yes". probably one of my funniest NS memories tbh.
californiagrownyou dont like looking as good as possible? I fucking hate shopping, but i sure like to have nice clothes.
To many people, that body type is the ideal body type... why wouldnt they chase it?
I look like a ski bum who works in construction, every single day of the year. The amount of upkeep I need to maintain this style, is pretty minimal.
and I really don't give a fuck if someone wants to have a muscular system that goes to absolutely no practical use, go for it. I don't care about aesthetics in general anyways.

im not bad at what I do
From what i have experienced in my life, all other things being equal (looks, personality, $$ etc) a person with a great body is more attractive and will allow you to date/hookup/marry more attractive women.
Additionally, from my experience, a physically imposing figure helps a lot in life in general- from not getting hassled in rough neighborhoods, to being taken seriously as a leader in your workplace, to being able to survive and/or recover quickly from trauma.
But youre right, who really cares what what another persons passion is as long as it doesnt hurt you. If its a passion you both share, awesome, but if not thats cool too. It takes all kinds in this world, nah mean?
most bodybuilders/crossfitters/athletes just want to be better. Its about constant growth and fullfillment. not body issues... why would someone that looks awesome have issues with it? I think you tell yourself they have issues so that you feel more comfortable with yourself.
is this gross or unhealthy or excessive?
It's unhealthy, for sure. Everybody who looks like this takes a steroid cocktail every day. Hopefully, I don't need to tell about all the health risks steroids pose.
I find natural athletes to be much more aesthetically appealing than the roided-out, spray-tanned bodybuilders.

That image is Aaron Curtis. And he is natural. Just because someone has muscles doesn't mean they're on steroids. And steroids doesn't make training any easier. You still need to eat right, train hard and keep discipline. This whole notion that "oh well he's on steroids so his gains don't count" is bullshit. You get on a cycle and you try and build as much muscle as the top bodybuilders.

additionally, steroids arent unhealthy. misusing and abusing steroids is unhealthy. you dont hear much about the guys doing it right, because they dont have any health problems for people to hear about haha.
BUT, in that picture, that dude is extremely unhealthy. he is probly extremely tired, mentally fatigued, and his stress levels are through the roof. But thats only because he is probably a week out from a comp. When not in final contest prep, that guy leads an extremely healthy life.

well this has gone way off topic but yeah you're right, having a lot more muscle would fuck me over, I don't fit in the water truck I spend 8 hours a day in anyways.

That last paragraph, pretty much sums up my thoughts on everything. If you want to do something, do it! Like I won't ever go out of my way, to say my opinion on body building because I know it's an unpopular one. It's a super personalized thing, and I live for functionality. My ski pants have been held together by red duct tape for 2 years now and it's not like I don't have the cash for new pants, but it just works.
I think that should kinda explain a bit better where i'm coming from on this instead of just being ignorant about my opinion haha

I guess I have a hard time understanding why people can't look at things from another POV. A lot of stuff just isn't for me, but I can always understand why some people love it.
Idk, why can't we all just sit in a circle singing kumbaya? Haha. Life's full of cool shit, be stoked people are pursuing passions.
nocturnalthe fuck? "I want to hear on opinion on a subject that people know nothing about."
you're a fucking idiot. You don't need to know about bodybuilding to have an opinion on the current state of it vs the old state of it. Do you need to be an expert on cooking to know what good food tastes like?

no, but it would be a really shitty facepalm filled conversation haha.

Ummm yeah you do, other wise you wouldn't know the two states are, or how they have changed. Also you are the idiot who does not fuck. Also yeah you have to try the food first or research it to be able to say it's good, not just say ewwww that looks gross therfore it is gross. That's the second time your point helped my argument thanks for that.

Hence why I included photos of Arnold, Jay and Phil for reference points. I specifically asked NS as none of them do lift or very few do and wanted to see what the average person thought of the current state of bodybuilding.
And why the fuck do always try and feel superior by using the exact same bullshit every quote "glad to see what you're saying helped my point" You had no fucking point, so how the fuck did what I say help your point?

Clearly from your post you have no idea what bodybuilding is, as you think posting two pictures can sum up the entire sports as a whole. Also you're saying you need to have no knowledge to be able to give informed valuable opinion.

so id be interested in hearing what you have to say when a non skier tells you that skiing is gay, or skiing is fucking stupid, sliding down a hill doesnt take any real skill or any balls at all, doing spins and flips like ballerinas in the air has no place in sport. their opinion on the matter is totally valid, despite having any knowledge, interest, or involvement in the sport whatsoever.... right?
I dated this amazingly beautiful girl, i met her at work and she was gorgeous.Northern european with darker skin, amazing body amazing everything. Well she got into bodybuilding and she has pretty much given herself a mans body forever.Bummer.

On a side note, I was shocked how much better people listened to me as a young foreman in the trades when I had my long surfer locks buzzed off. It was like night and day.
Personally kind of think bodybuilding is dumb, somewhat like trophy hunting but without killing innocent animals haha, what's the point? But to each their own I guess

I'm not quite sure who that was directed at, but I was told that my entire life growing up (Especially that only snowboarders can do flips) in the school and I really didn't care because they don't ski.
Now excuse me while I go onto a website about horse riding, and I talked to them about how they like skiing, and if triple flips are now too much as opposed to the good old days with single flips. Totally not a ridiculous thing to do.

I'm talking about pro level IFBB bodybuilding. Not mens physique competitions and not entry levels comps. So two photos is all I need. I'm not asking for an experts opinion because I can already look at them on bodybuilding.com. Like I said I specifically asked NS for their opinions because I wanted an outsiide view of the situation. Just your average everyday person. This thread sorta turned into a shit storm instead of what I was hoping where people would say I prefer x bodybuilding over y or whatever.

Sorry that was directed at sjw I had accidentally added you in to the reply. But yeah you get the gist of what I was going for with haha.

I don't really care because that's their opinion. I have plenty of friends who think skiing is gay and snowboarding is cool. It doesn't make their opinion any less valid. So every opinon you have, you're an expert on the subject? Didn't think so.
S.J.WI don't really care because that's their opinion. I have plenty of friends who think skiing is gay and snowboarding is cool. It doesn't make their opinion any less valid. So every opinon you have, you're an expert on the subject? Didn't think so.
No, but exactly like you said it's their opinion and you don't care. Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they are valid, but the weight they hold for argumentative/conversational purposes is limited.
This is because they are outsiders giving an uninformed, uneducated opinion and when talking to people actually interested/involved/whatever in the sport it is taken with a grain of salt.
For example. I do not watching basketball, period, I think it is boring, uninteresting and I do not play, nor have I played ever, yet I love watching baseball, I play baseball, I have always played baseball. If someone tells me baseball is boring and no fun to watch I take it with a grain of salt and, don't give a fuck because someone who has no interest in the sport may not/probably doesn't understand the intricacies of the sport which I personally appreciate and enjoy watching. The opposite goes for basketball and I expect that when talking to someone who loves basketball.
Apply this to the current conversation of bodybuilding. Yes. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, you don't like it, congratulations. If you walk into a room where 99% of the people don't have a clue about bodybuilding, or they have never lifted a weight, and you ask them their stance of the current state of the sport, the people that do know and care won't and most likely don't give a fuck. Are their opinions valid? Yes, but they hold very little weight to a person who is interested in the sport who understands its intricacies. Therefore, to a degree, asking random in knowledgable people about it is, to a degree, irrelevant
ronnie coleman is a perfect example. He has nowhere near the athleticism of someone like schwarzenneggar, not even employing the black/white handicap. Ronnie coleman would get his ass destroyed if he did mma at a catch weight when he was younger. But if schwarzenneggar did mma when he was younger he wouldve been like fedor or nogueira. Arnold was a true athlete to ogle and leer at. Coleman is nowhere close to arnold in that regard.
Also to me the coolest aspect of physicality is genetically based.
like a typical russian boy is so much stronger than a typical caucasian boy its not even funny. Both in muscle mass and muscle leverage.
Youve probably heard the term “theres something in the water over there”. What this statement ends up referring to is genetics.
2 russian boys who dont lift weights:
russian cannibal
Southern slavs like novak djokovic are also very naturally athletic without lifting weights.
I find those physiques much more admirable than the physique of bodybuilders. (Although i still love arnold). The perfect body in my view is one where there are not muscles sticking out everywhere, but more like a layer of thick muscles present everywhere on the body.
