Vermont ski trip planning

Hey guys, I have a question for you Vermont skiers. My friends and I might be taking a trip to Vermont this winter. I was wondering which of the resorts in Vermont has the restaurant in the middle of the hill.

Also, which resort do you guys suggest would be good for beginners but also for people who want some steeper and more challenging terrain. Thanks!

If you're looking to ski more in the glades smugglers notch is a great choice.

Jay peak for the pow, mount snow for the park, and can't go wrong with Stowe or Killington

okemos got a little bit of everything. some trees on J-gore's side, some easy slopes but also chief is super fun if u try and straight line the whole thing which is nearly impossible without edges and some turning or super G skis. but yeah they got good diversity. killy is good as well, but its deff steeper. id say its a toss up between okemo and stratton. okemos got a mid hill lodge too tho

Mount Snow and slay Carinthia all day if you want some sick park.
Can also find some sick trees over by RipCord. There's also a shack at the top of the blue bird.

Stowe & Sugarbush were a toss up for best trees IMO. If you go to Sugarbush just don't ride that dang lift that goes peak to peak it feels like a 9 hour car ride.

To answer your first question, it's Okemo.

Second, Killington has some good terrain for any ability. Some beginner trails over at Snowshed and Ramshead, steeps on Bear Mountain (i.e. Outer Limits and Devil's Fiddle) and scattered among K1, Skye Peak, and Snowdon. Of course, if you feel like taking some park laps, you can hit some small features in Neff Land and Timberline at Ramshead, not to mention there are bigger features in The Stash and Dream Maker at Skye Peak. Plus, everything you need is right along the access road (i.e. restaurants, places to stay, shops, etc.).

Stowe, Killington, Jay Peak and Okemos seem to be the most popular in this thread. We're looking to go in the beginning of January, so which of the resorts is usually the best early in the season?

Yeah, another vote for Stowe. They have two restaurants at the top of the gondola, one fancy sit down place and another typical lodge cafeteria. More importantly awesome skiing, great parks and high end facilities (if your into that.) Puts you close to alot of other mountains too; Sugarbush, Mad River, Bolton Valley, Smuggs, Killy and Jay will be a bit of a drive but not terrible. Stowe has another thing going for it that rarely gets mentioned, but it's got the best mountain town/village (that i've been to.) Tons of awesome shops and restaurants/bars while still maintaining a classic mountain town vibe. Nothing is cheap in Stowe though, so if money is a factor, brace for impact.

and when I say 2 at the top of the gondola I mean 1 at the top of the gondolla and the other on the Fourunner quad... my bad

Thanks for the reply! It sounds like an awesome place but the cheaper the better. We're lookinh for maybe a 4 day trip also.

I'd try to get a day in at Mount Snow if everyone you're with is willing to give a whole day to park. You really gotta ride Carinthia if you're gonna ski VT, especially being from PA. It's a nice change of pace park wise. Had so much fun there and hope to go back for a few days this winter.

If you're looking for something cheaper, avoid Stratton at all costs. It's expensive to ski at such a flat mountain.

Sugarbush looked like a great place with alot of acres and terrain. Does anyone know what the prices are like there? I saw Okemos lift tickets We're like $92 on the weekend which seems kinda high.

Any of the big resorts are gonna be $80+ on a weekend, if you have a pass to another mountain though you get 50% off tickets at jay, which is a great deal.

Like others have said: Sugarbush, Stowe and Killington are 3 of my favorites because they really have it all. As far as park goes Sugarbush is rail heaven, Stowe is dope cause u can hit almost every park in one run. Killingtons got a pretty good park as well. They all have good terrain. Many people find those resorts super crowded, but for me growing up skiing the 20 minute lift line waits at wachusett, anywhere else I go seems quiet af. Mad river is dope if your looking for steep glades, that being said mad river lives and dies on conditions. Smuggs is great cause crowds are minimal and it's super close to Stowe. Anyways vt has tons of good terrain and lots to choose from.
