does beer taste shittier in aluminum bottles? I think so. I know that cans are made of aluminum too, and brands that have aluminum bottles are pretty shit anyways but I dunno man

Beer in an aluminum can never actually touches aluminum. There's a thin epoxy coating of BPA on the inside of all cans. This has been shown to leach into beer or whatever else is inside the can. Whether this changes the taste or not I'm not sure, but one could assume any chemical additive that's in one beer but not in another could easily change the taste ever so slightly.
On the other hand, beer cans are opaque. Beer keeps its taste better when not exposed to light (the reason why most beer cans are dark brown), so say Brava that comes in cans or clear bottles will generally keep its taste better over the long run in cans. Of course the drawback being BPA will also be leeching into your beer.

Theyre actually very convenient for when youre on a boat, golfing or really anything besides just sitting there. Judging someone by the type of can/bottle they get.... lol

I mean, there might be a slight difference in the way that the beer's aromas reach your nose and mouth when drinking from can/bottle, but the medium itself (glass versus aluminum) is inert and shouldn't change the taste at all. If I took three Bud Lights - one from a can, one from an aluminum bottle, and one from a glass bottle - and poured them into solo cups, I guarantee you wouldn't be able to tell which was which.
As far as I know, the only factor related to the container that affects taste is that of light for beers in glass bottles.

I tend to disagree, think you would know which was the can. Something about the carbonation or crispness difference to me.
I'm gonna go with glass being highly inert and aluminum having some nonzero chance of reacting with some component of beer, whether it be the alcohol or something else. Could be aluminum hydroxide, oxides, salts, coordination complexes. Who knows. BPA would prevent that. No idea what BPA tastes like, but your taste buds seem to be very sensitive so even a small amount would be noticed. Could be a few glass molecules in your drink too, but whether it's detectable is up for grabs.
Should be a fun experiment. Go buy a 6 pack and 6 bottles of the same beer and blind test all twelve, for science obviously. But really, you'd technically get a better result seeing if all six cans taste different than all six bottles, rather than just trying one from each set.
Hope that link works. This question has been asked a lot, so I figured there must be some studies out there. Overall, just over 50% of people guessed correctly, can vs bottle. Of course that's a 50-50 shot so that's indicative of no difference. Somehow over 60% of people identified the canned Bud correctly, but most people incorrectly guessed for the Sierra Nevada.
I'm going to revise my position to say that while there may be some very minute differences between can and bottle for specific beers, they do not indicate a trend that can be extrapolated for all beers. These differences are probably unnoticeable to most. I would also guess that those differences are due to slight differences in the production processes for cans/bottles and not the container itself.

At least in Canada when you take bottles back to the beer store they get sent back to the brewers who clean and reuse them. This is for the brown beer bottles only, but that makes up probably 90% of bottles sold. This is far easier and less energy intensive then smelting and remaking entirely new cans.
Also the biggest downside of the can is still the BPA. That and aluminum isn't as sustainable a resource as silica.

interestingly enough, BPA is also in beer bottles, in the rubber under the cap. this should never come into contact with the beer, but due to shipping and the possibility of improper storage, BPA can still leech into bottled beer too
What are aluminum bottles, 16 ounces? Why do you need a resealable lid for that little of alcohol? Beer cans seem to work well and not cost as much, don't see the need for aluminum bottles
Studied this in college. My professor explained it well. Canned beer is the best tasting next to draft. The can keeps the beer protected much better from light exposure which degrades flavor and has a better seal. BUT to get this good flavor you need to pour it in a wide mouth glass. Aroma is half of beer taste. Or any tasting for that matter.
People don't realize but drinking straight out of a bottle is the worst way to drink beer. The narrow neck allows no aroma out. And glass bottles let in way to much light. Best bottle is dark brown but that still sucks. Corona prefers bottle and clear because their beer tastes like shit anyways so why allow people to really taste it. It also cuts down on packaging as that is one of the most expensive parts of beer brewing.

maybe the bits of light and air getting into bottles and "spoiling" the beer actually makes it taste better subjectively. maybe light is the secret ingredient that makes beer taste like sunshine?

Well...if you did that, you'd be removing them from their differing containers, and pouring them all into like containers...that doesn't disprove the original theory at all...it does provides a solution, though--OP--if you want your beer to taste good, pour it into a glass :)

I can only drink beer from aluminum cans. It has a great taste. If I go to a bar and get a beer on tap, Ill sprinkle in some aluminum shavings that I keep with me. Nom Nom I just can't get enough of that flavor

You're not alone but I don't get it. At my local bar I can get a draft domestic pint for about 1/2 the price of a can but some of the regulars will only order cans. I can't tell a difference so I'm not going to pay more for a can with less beer.

No, they have a cleaning service so that isn't it. These guys have the option to buy the same beer in glass bottles but they choose to order cans.
The place across the street actually has those aluminum bud light bottles and I've actually seen people order those too. I guess some people just have different tastes but it seems weird to me.
