PurpleReignHonestly, as epic as this video is, I find this shit offensive. There are places to conduct motor sports, but the ocean just isn't one of them in my opinion.
I think this video embodies the moral dilemmas we experience as action sports enthusiasts. We depend so much on the environment for our thrills, yet many of our actions aimed at "progressing" our sports seem to endanger the only medium that allows the sports to exist at all.
theBearJewThis video doesnt appear to seem like not that we know its possible competitions are going to form around moto surfing.

RRhighriderHow is this worse than driving a boat or a jet ski in the Ocean?
PurpleReignI don't think it is much worse. Jet skis can burn upwards of 20 gallons of fuel per HOUR. Perhaps even worse, 20-25% of PWC fuel fails to combust and consequently leaks into the water. Boats aren't much better, although they do offer functionality outside of simply shredding around.
Call me crotchety, I just think stunts like this kinda spit in the face of the planet that gave us all these sporting opportunities.
inb4 Ken Block's Gymkhana 13 at Pipeline...
DIX~How the fuck does he accelerate on that thing? It would have made more sense if he sand tires or something
ianrich511GO HOME HIPPIE!
S.J.Wto be honest. I'm not really that impressed by this. It just looks like a weird looking jetski and pretty much functions all the same.

ianrich511Jet ski: Limited to water, propelled by water pump, floats at 0 mph.
Dirt bikeski: Land and water, propelled by driveshaft, does not float at 0 mph.
I don't see the similarities.
Barefootin_Fiendwhat the fuck kind of jet skis do you have that can burn 20 gallons of fuel per HOUR???? that's the most absurd statement I've ever heard and not even remotely close to the truth.
PurpleReignI'm gonna take a shot in the dark and assume that you haven't spent much time on a coast, much less in a lineup. If you had, you would know that the last thing anyone out there wants is a tin can 2-stroke brapping around the surf. Is this video badass? Sure. Am I being a hater? Perhaps.
ianrich511You got me all wrong here PurpleReign. I am not a proponent of this becoming something that is allowed out on the water, in fact I would vote against this in a heart beat(I really enjoy surfing). I was just stating that these two vehicles(jetski v dirtbikeski) are in fact very, very different.
PurpleReignSure I took the high end of the range, but burning 8-15 GPH ain't much better. I grew up living the lake life, I've seen the damage that motor sports have done to our beloved lakes here in Minne. It is irresponsible, plain and simple.

Barefootin_FiendYou're misrepresenting this info....
In that regard, all personal watercraft fare pretty well"
byuboundThe rear wheel has paddles like the ones they use in sand dunes.
PurpleReignAnd you're misunderstanding my point. I'm more concerned about the difference in fuel efficiency between a PWC and a surfboard. My guess, despite very limited experience with PWCs and other motorized rec vehicles, is that a surfboard is quite a bit more fuel efficient.
I'm not arguing that we need to do away with motor sports across the board. I AM advocating that we restrict our motor usage to environments that are less sensitive to their impacts.
Barefootin_Fiendno, it's not that I misunderstand your point. I'm just pointing out the gross exaggerations that you're making in your attempt to legitimize your point.
