I have the fortune and misfortune of going to school in Southern California. So friday my friends and i were going to ski mt. high, a small park and man made snow dominated mountain 2 hours away. We were about 15 minutes from the mountain when the road was closed, because southern california can't handle 6in of snow. We turned around and we were talking, and the someone mentioned mammoth. All we had were our skis and ski clothes, but being the first week semester we didn't have any work to do. So we drove up to mammoth (6 hours away) without a place to stay through a snow storm. 7-8 later we were in mammoth lakes looking for a place to stay. We talked the guy down because no one was driving in through the storm. I awoke to bomb's blasting, and was hoping for a good day. Unfortunately we were in a blizzard, the worst part being the wind which closed 90% of the mountain and held us to blue runs with wind swept pow and long lines. Not ideal conditions, but we had fun, then drove 6 hours back, through periods of zero visibility. We had to stop because we couldn't see the road or the makers. All in all it was a fun trip, we made some turns. By the way, Kirkwood got 4ft in 24 hours, i'm guessing they were closed today, but boy would i like to have been there.
