Camera Mic

Hello ladys and gents of NSG. So I've recently got myself a camera, the Nikon D3200 mostly for taking everyday pictures and having fun. But now that I have it I'm definitely gonna wanna do some recording during this upcoming ski season. So my question is how important is buying an external mic for it and what brands/kinds you guys suggest?

but i have a rode mic on my t3i and it seems to work pretty well. if you do end up getting an external mic then you should definitely invest in a deadcat as well.
