You're standing on the street, within plain view of a police officer. Someone comes up and randomly punches you in the face for no good reason. The officer does nothing. so you punch the person in the face in retaliation. Are you then both of equal blame for the violence? Or are you just protecting yourself while an authority figure stands idle?
The problem with this whole event is that you had two groups anticipating violence. All it takes is a few words, one wrong look, one aggressive movement for the fighting to start.

While I disagree with the Antifa's tactics of using violence, it is worth noting that they are a reactionary force, created as a resistance to Nazism and Fascism because of the U.S. government's inaction to policing and condemning them for what they are. The Antifa only exist because the Nazis and Fascists existed first.
My metaphor is apt. The government does not have an obligation to protect people from hate speech, until it leads to imminent violence. They did not protect the anti-protestors which created a state of lawlessness and a necessity for Antifa. In my understanding of the law, it is unconstitutional to allow hate groups to assemble if the result is violence, and in this case, a death. The blood is on the Nazis hands and the government's ignoring of the constitution sends a message of anarchy, one where the citizenry instead of the authority is tasked with keeping the peace.
Again, I don't condone violence of any sort and view the Antifa as problematic and a step in the wrong direction. However, if the US government stays idle in situations such as these which violate the constitution (in my opinion), vigilantism can be viewed as ethically permissible (again, my opinion).

Oh I know about Antifa and their history, going all the way back to 1932. They're certainly reactionary, but they've also become agitators in recent times. There are radical factions to any group unfortunately.
The matter about the government's obligation to protect people may fall under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment but I'm no lawyer, let alone a Constitutional Law expert. That being said, I don't think we can say fairly say one party was intent on violence while the other was innocent. I believe there were members of both parties looking for violence as a means to gain support for their cause while vilifying the other one.
But either way, the Government was in a no-win position. If they didn't let the protest happen, they were violating the 1st Amendment but if they did, they could have ended up with events like the ones that occurred.

I think that any presentation of Nazism should not be protected by the 1st Amendment. They have a clear message of violence that is widely known throughout the world. Alt-right, white-nationalism, and the rest can avoid that direct relation (even the KKK, as much as it pains me to say), but being a Nazi is where the line should be drawn, at least to me. Germany would agree with you there, but their history is a little different than ours in regards to Nazis ;).
It's a tough thing to accomplish though given the history of the US, groups being attacked for their religion, political beliefs, and skin color.

yeah really just standing there in the street and then randomly gets punched. Also disregard the caption from the video because that's not my point. Yes, you're correct in your hypothetical but it's a little too perfect. This isn't two people. It's two very large opposing groups. Unless we have video footage of the whole encounter from every angle no one for sure who started the brawl. Videos like this would say nazis started it. But there could be a video out there showing the protestors started it.

There's no mention, anywhere, of Nazi's or White Supremacists in the first one when making that comparison. That's an issue. By not naming the the Alt-Right for what they are, he is putting them on a level playing field for what happened.
It may be the case that both the far left and Alt-Right did despicable things on Saturday but the undeniable truth is that one side, the Alt-Right, when it is made up of the Neo-Nazi's and White Supremacists like it was Saturday, has a history uglier than almost any other modern group. There is no reason that he should lead with the condemnation of both groups. Do not give the far left a free pass, but do not equate them to the Alt-Right.

As for the murder of the girl, I see in the raw footage the media refuses to show, a car that slowed down before being slammed with poles and clubs from the protestors, to which he then sped up into the crowd. Lastly, you might want to look up the registration of the car and his recent social media pictures and compare them to the car that was used to ram through the crowd. How interesting it is that they are very different.

The video is horrible also but it isn't the one I was referring to. It does matter that he slowed down and he looked to be taking a left. He only sped up after his bumper was bashed in from behind. And where are the police? Why are hundreds of people blocking the road?

I've been called a nazi for asking questions; if someone tells you that you're on the wrong side, be more than suspicious of them. Asking questions and clarifying the truth of an event is a hallmark of being an intelligent human being.
This applies to those on any side of an argument. If someone asks you to think irrationally, or truly, if they try to influence your way of thinking other than cogent argument and appeals to reason, ignore them.

His base is something completely new in American politics. Yes he has the support of the mainstream conservatives because of his promises to be a deregulator. However, his base really is not made up of the classic conservative. I'm a pretty open minded guy, my family is conservative, and I now live in Wyoming one of the reddest states in the country. However, the Internet Troll base that voted for him are some of the most hateful, bitter, and unhappy people in the country. His divisive rhetoric invited them out of the shadows by normalizing all of the ignorant bullshit they've been spewing online for years. Now all these losers like Christopher cantwell with these imagined grievances are coming out of the woodwork. The saddest part is, the mysoginy and racism mostly starts because this "aggrieved white male" we've heard so much about is really just the creep from high school who sat in the back of the room drawing fucked up doodles of war and rape wiping his boogers on his shirt and doing nothing but playing WOW and Halo after shool. This is exactly it, markets are soaring because with one party republican control right now Wall St is anticipating major tax cuts and and regulatory roll backs. And I'm a registered independent living in Wyoming where a non-red vote really doesn't matter so I voted for Jill Stein. I really don't hold the memes against you I actually found them funny. It's just that I work with tons of people who actually accept this stuff as gods honest truth and I often have to listen to that crap at work.
