TheHamburglarHere's the crux of the problem of your views, as well as the fundamental issue of the bipartisan system; no political issue is EVER black and white, as you keep simplifying them to be. You are well aware of this, yet seem to defy your own logic when you come to these wildly off-base conclusions that reinforce the us versus them mentality.
It's possible to be a progressive liberal and still believe in "traditional" American values. Just because you want a safe homeland doesn't mean it's necessary to vehemently discriminate against entire groups of people because of a few bad apples. That's also vast oversimplification, but the general idea remains. Your ways of thinking are those of the past, and have only led to further sectarian division. Many baby boomers have views like you, and thankfully, that thought process is literally dying out. I believe this paradigm is born out of fear and ignorance rather than logic and reality.
Yes, I have stated that radicalized Muslims are a real threat to our country, and while your rhetoric isn't the root of the problem, it's not doing any good. There are plenty of good people in any group, and some bad. Your lack of recognition for Muslims who do good things for humanity and try to improve quality of life for those around them is a problem, though. Vilifying an entire group of people, no matter what book they pledge to, is a problem. There's a huge amount of discrimination preached in the bible, yet we choose to overlook those points and focus exclusively on the koran?
The point is, this country is a walking contradiction, and while there are crazies on both sides (like you on the Right), there is a huge number of people stuck in the middle who disagree with the contemporary issues with our government, criticize those who perform poorly in public forums, and ultimately think for themselves. I can't put my full support behind the Democratic party because I know how, well, self-interested they can be. However, the same is true for the Right. I don't support self-interest, especially in government, but who do you think is really more guilty of this, Dems or Repubs? Do you really think Trump holds the interests of American citizens closer than the interests of his and his friends' pocketbooks?
Isn't it nice being civil?
However, you unwavering adherence to the moral and cultural relativism you espouse makes it difficult for you to see the picture clearly. In terms of something like Sharia law, it is very black and white. Sharia law is antithetical to freedom, and is a disease that cannot be allowed to metastasize in any Western society. Comparing Sharia law and other elements of militant Islam to anything from any other major religion is simply wrong, on a large scale no other religious groups acts in the way that Muslims do.
Only in Islam do we see frequent suicide bombings.
Only in Islam do we see religiously condoned rape of non-believers.
Only in Islam do we see believers actively encouraged to kill infidels.
Only in Islam do we see major religious leaders call for the death of non-believers.
Only in Islam do we see fathers routinely kill their daughters for "bringing dishonor to the family".
Only in Islam do we see widespread terrorism, inspired by the very writing of the so-called "religious" texts.
Only in Islam are women routinely beaten and abused, which is also condoned by the religion.
I could go on for a while, but the gist is that you cannot compare Islam to other religions. It is a militant, totalitarian political ideology wrapped in the cloak of religion. In terms of Jew hatred, Mein Kampf doesn't even come close to the Koran.
Now, we constantly hear the "not all muslims do this!"
Sure, when they're in the minority. The closer a society gets to adhering to Sharia and other elements of Islam, the more backwards and vile it becomes.
When was the last time you saw muslims protesting outside of a Jihad-linked mosque?
Political islamic groups like the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR exist to further just one end, to spread islam and Sharia across the globe. They believe the world is divided into only two spheres, the dar al-islam (lands under muslim control) and the dar al-harb, meaning the "land of war" (the lands of non-believers).
Now, most of the leadership of islam is dominated by ideological islam. The main islamic associations in the United States, CAIR, ISNA, NAIT, and several others are all involved with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Muslims themselves must speak out against these organizations that promote Sharia. Beside a few sparse examples, such a Zuhdi Jasser, we have seen almost none of this. Instead, we have seen far-Left groups join arms with these Sharia groups in the cause of some twisted, intersectional idea of "civil rights".
