onenerdykidLet's not forget that the USA is the 2nd largest manufacturer of goods in the world- it would be quite hard to be that if there was a disdain for the American working class. If these companies coming back to the US are a direct result of Trump & his policies, isn't it getting a little close to state interference in the free market for you? Letting companies go to Mexico or China or wherever is a mark of a totally free market. While I do support such government intervention in the markets, it doesn't seem like you should? It strikes me as a little too leftist for you. Or am I wrong in assuming that?
But it really is great to see more jobs being "brought" back to the States. But these corporate tax breaks they are getting in order to make this profitably viable will end up getting shouldered by the middle class tax payer. That is one shitty reality of it.
I've never been opposed to certain government intervention. Anti-trust laws, for example, are beneficial to competition.
In trade, a "free market" between trading partners would normally create a long-term evening out of the trade balance between them. In certain cases, the opposite has happened (especially as it relates to China). A country cannot have a healthy economy based largely on consumption of cheaply produced goods manufactured overseas.
To to my knowledge, Ford received no tax breaks. Moreover, in the case of Carrier, I'd rather these tax breaks be "shouldered by the middle class taxpayer" with a job, rather than send his or her job to Mexico in exchange for an EBT card.
