A million Ways To Die In The West

B_stanYoo, alright I'm trying to get out west this up coming season. It will be my first time out west. My old man has been out west and skied everything from powder days at Jackson to wet sticky snow in Cali. I know I'll be able to ski anything wherever we go. I just wanna know some of the best places to go.

P.s. I'm not much of a park skier. I might spend half a day tearin up the park on a 4 day trip.

P.S. x2 we are looking into Aspen-snowmass, jackson, big sky, and Breck.

andeezymcdBreck is pretty bomb, has a lot of diversity from park to glades to above treeline terrain... However, I've never been to any of the others named so take that with a grain of salt. The nice thing about Breck is that you can ski any of the other Vail resorts (A-basin, Key, Vail, Beaver Creek) around there with the same ticket. Plus where I live (Michigan) it's usually super cheap to fly to Denver since it's such a big airport but if that isn't a huge concern don't worry about it.

bob_dolebreck is the weakest place on that list. how about you learn the other places first before you give him stupid advice. 1. jackson 2. big sky/aspen-snowmass (depending on if you want a fully on tourist vibe, or no frills ski vacation) 10. breck

Mr.BishopJackson is all-time man, definitely one to tick off the bucket list. Park is pretty mediocre but realistically you're not skiing park at Jackson.

theabortionatorI went for my first time last year. Would have gone twice but my car broke on the drive up the first time. Spent 3 days there though. Place is awesome.

Also I was very impressed with the park. Wasn't expecting much or anything but it was pretty rad. I believe there are 3 stash parks if you like wood. Also their main park had some awesome flow.

Wall on one side then a hip on the other, back and forth with some straight jump options in the middle, then a toilet bowl at the bottom. IT was pretty ran.

I mean, there parks weren't maintained that well but I went very late in the season so it's understandable. Warm whether and the last couple weeks of some of the parks.

Can't wait to go back next year. I was smiling hard the whole time. Such a sick place.

Mr.BishopYou're right, Jackson does have a pretty impressive park considering what you'd expect. Loads of fun. I guess I just didn't really think about it much because it snowed a few times while we were there. :)

loopieJackson Hole and Utah (some resorts) are super sick but holy shit the lines man. Just be prepared to wait in super super long lines for powder.

There is some absolutely top class terrain in the west for skiing but you are not alone on wanting to shred it. I live in UT, and last year gave up on the resorts. Too... many... fucking... people.

Enjoy your trip, just something to consider (if you care about lines)

B_stanI live in the Midwest. Small resorts, lots of people, lots of bad skiers in the way. I've waited 20 minutes in line for a 3 minute lift ride. So what you might call a long line might not be that long to me.

loopieYou might very well be right. Last time I was at Jackson it was an hour long wait just to get on the tram (not including the ride up). I might be impatient though I could only do three runs before I left to Idaho in search of greener pastures.

It's hit or miss though. Some days are better, some are worse. You'll enjoy it either way though.

Most mountains have at least one chair that isn't beaten with people that has decent terrain. On busy days that's where I stay.

loopieI tried man. It took just as long to gain as much vert as the tram as waiting for the two lifts to take you to the top. Locals burn off by noon so lift lines disappear but so does the pow.

IDK I'm a backcountry skier so whether it's 1 person in front me or 100 it's too long of a line haha. I've been able to ski a good portion of the Rockies but Snowbird and Jackson Hole have had the worst lines I've ever encountered.
