I log on once in a while during the summer and everything seems so dead now. Sometimes I go read old threads and they are 10X better than threads today (except this one). Watching edits gets me pumped and then makes me sad that I can't ski yet. The real depression sets in when a penis joke doesn't even make me giggle. Are things bad or am i just cynical?

Well in my expert knowledge of how dates work. Comparing a member who joined in 2015 to comparing a member who joined in 2012. We can conclude that in fact the 2012 member has been on Newschoolers longer than the 2015 member.
Now offcourse this study isn't fact yet as it still needs to be peer reviewed to ensure that a 2012 member has in fact been on this site longer than a 2015 member. However, I am fairly confident that my findings are correct and that you are wrong.

Yes, NSG does not have the draw it once was. I think one part of that is the fact there's all kinds of other places to do stupid shit (like snapchat) to get your summer rocks off.
The second part is that sure summer NSG was wild, but it infected the site like cancer when people actuallly wanted to chat about skiing or post videos. The entire site had these small crews of shithead NSGers that really were ruining the party for a lot of people.
Anyway, keep the discourse open, always love to hear the feedback.

Yeah this is pretty much what happened. The site because a lot about the lulz vs. skiing. I mean you could argue very well if that is a good or bad thing, and personally I loved it when it was actually funny. It just turned this corner where it wasn't funny anymore.

I also believe that this is going to create an immense net benefit in the ski-related discussions come winter, because there won't be so many fucking idiots trolling around just trying to ruin everyone's day.

Over the past few years there's been many time's I'm excited to go and check back on a thread and then it's gone, after it's already pages into discussion. Many times just one person makes a 'bad post' and the whole thread gets deleted. I rarely post now, but the last one I can think of off the top of my head is the snapchat of Khai with a girl. Back in the day this site had titties all over the place, and a screenshot of a girl sleeping in a bed with a skier is now 'over the line'. Again, there's MANY over the last few years that shouldn't have been deleted. Why go on 'censored' NS when you can post whatever the hell you want on snapchat/instagram

I'd say snap/insta has way more to do with it than what we do here. The options of social media have very much forced us to adapt. Now note - our snap is pretty raw when it happens.
That thread specifically I deleted because it was pointed out to me that I didn't get sober consent from the girl involved. Everyone was cool with it, but nobody knew who she was and I realized that maybe it was a little unfair to have that up of her.
The funny part about this for me is that as a company we're totally sending it. We want to be raw as fuck and within somewhat respectful limits do wahtever the fuck we want. The stupidity that NSG became is what kills me. I appreciate all the rawness 1,000% but there was a couple of fuckign idiots that really ruined the party.
So raw and reckless is OK - just make it actually funny vs. just a bunch of idiots trying to troll the world who aren't even funny.

So there isn't the same level of humor associated with a quality troll as there once was. You can simply opt out of it in your feed and its like that person doesn't exist.

Trolling also got really lazy. Back in the day trolls were actually funny. You had people that built up entire personas dedicated to stirring the pot. Nowadays the modern troll just makes a dick joke that is one line and thinks its quality. Its utter horseshit.

Times were really different then. There was literally no facebook, no instagram, no snapchat - nothing. NS was the only game in town and on a conversation basis - we were the only way to communicate with other skiers.
Tonnes of the current roster of pros built their reputations up here. Hell Tom was just another NS kid for a long time. I remember after getting popular on the site, marketing people would ask me who this Tom Whatever kid was and if they should take a second look.
Now, things are more fragmented and different. That is perfectly fine though, and we need to adapt to the new world. This is a huge reason we've dialed up our social media, and continue to engage the audience in whatever platform they like. Here at Newschoolers, we're not going to be the only place for skiers to connect - but we can be the best. Even if we end up losing a huge amount of the average mainstream person talking (they still read and view content) we can engage in incredible discourse about this sport in depth.
I mean for gods sake we actually had Candide log in last year and answer people's questions in real time. After 30 minutes I told him that he had done more than enough and it was OK to log off - but he told me that he was having fun and really wanted to keep it going.
The key to the future of the forums here is going to be really cool discussion. If you're just here to troll - and your troll isn't funny - then fuck off. If you want to contribute to the ski community then lets fucking do it.
