FKS and look pivot

Just wondering what the benefit of having a pivoting heel binding is like are in rossy FKS and the look pivots.

i personally like them because the arms wrap around the boot heel and actually make contact with the side of the boot rather than just on the lug or whatever its called. so basically a more secure and solid feel.

also in my experience the turntables offer a much smoother release compared to my other bindings. often times ill wreck and wont know that i had popped out, whereas my other bindings ill feel my boot popping out.


BUT, brake issues if youre a narb and wreck landing switch, its expensive and/or a pain to fix/replace them.

Something about the heal piece pivoting so the toe and heal release at the same time to save your ACL. I really don't know.

Another pro is that if you land far back seat it will give you a little surprise in your bum

I have FKS and they seem to have a quicker/better release than other non-pivot bindings I've had. The pivot almost guides your ankle out of the binding, which is nice. Helps prevent your foot getting stuck in the binding and breaking your knee or tearing something.

Originally the pivoting heel piece was designed to mitigate tib/fib spiral fractures.

It has nothing to do with ACL injuries. Those stories are just folklore and hype. They have more elastic travel then some of the older designed bindings, which let skiers run slightly lower release settings due to fewer pre-releases.

Some guys like FKS/Pivots, I don't. I think they're a good binding, but I will never purchase a pair for my own use.

That's not true. There is no evidence that suggests that the pivoting heel does anything to prevent ACL injuries and Rossi/Look have never claimed this either. Just a thing lots of people are told even though it's not true.

Yeah I mean it isnt technically true. But there have been multiple times that I felt I was saved by my FKS and on any of my other bindings me knee would be done for. Rossi and Look have never claimed it but it sure feels true sometimes. Whether thats just in my head I don't know, but it makes me feel more secure and thats a big part of it too.

Regardless of how you feel it's not a sellin point.

Fke and pivot are great but don't get caught up thinking they are any safer then other bindings. tget do have a lot of elasticity, close to the most on the market so they should be a solid choice just don't expect them to save your knees. If you survived a fall with fks chances areyou would with any binding.

Less to do with the pivoting motion, but people used to hype it for giving the ski a more natural flex since the heel piece has less contact with the ski over others. I've personally never felt that it mattered or we'd all be riding those ridiculous wayne wong windshield wipers. People do like the feeling of how close it gets you to the ski over other bindings, the elastic travel, and the durability. The reason people like them typically has nothing to do with the pivoting heel, and some actually hate that feature for how crappy they can be to step into.

This. I love mine simply for how they feel, but i hate how then can be a bitch to step into sometimes.

Well yeah its not like they're gonna market "Yeah this one random kid feels like they are safer". But the fact that I do feel much more confident and comfortable in them is definitely good enough for me.

Also, when I have released from them they have always felt like they release much smoother/naturally. Do they actually do that, or just another thing Im feeling? I don't know, but you seem like the guy to ask.
