RDemYou could just keep your sth2's on them and buy alpine trekkers
ShireRative heard very few positive things about the performance of alpine trekkers. i thought the inserts might be a decent solution so i can ski my normal setup most of the winter and then switch to a touring binding in the spring when i do most of my skinning.
.lenconYou very well could do this. It's just not good to make A LOT of swaps, so you need to plan your days out. Alpine Trekkers suck, maybe just sell sth and buy guardians? Guardians aren't too clunky for an AT binding. Although they are kind of heavy, they're super low to the ski.
PmooreAlpine Trekkers are so underrated. There is a very high chance, in my opinion that you will have a binding rip out switching bindings out well before you actually break a trekker.
Get trekkers, go to your local hardware store, buy one of every screw in a trekker and put them in your backpack. That way you will never have problems with your trekkers.
Source- 2 straight seasons on trekkers touring and never having a problem more than replacing a screw or two on the trail.
ShireRatinteresting, your actually one of the first positive reviews i've read of alpine trekkers on this site haha. Are you guys saying that the quiver killer inserts have a tendency to rip out of the core when you change them a lot, or do the binding screws rip out of the inserts? (not that it really matters, a ripped out binding sucks no matter what) honestly to me the ideal at binding is the cast system, but at its current price its more feasible to just buy a whole dedicated touring setup.
PmooreAgreed on the cast system, it is dope.
The issue with quiver killers is they almost always will let water in and thus rot the core and have rip outs. Just an imperfect system, I would love for that to work but I just dont think it does.
ShireRatdamn, i thought that was part of the appeal of them, a convenient safe way to change bindings from skis without ruining the integrity of the core. i was not aware of that they had water leakage issues.
ShireRatinteresting, i thought the whole point of the quiver killer inserts was so it was possible to take the binding screws in and out without much damage to the ski. I like guardians for sure, for an AT binding they ski great. however, im just too much of a jib kid to justify skiing on AT bindings all season long.

PoikenzIt is perfectly fine to make a ton of swaps, it is what they are made for, the amount of swaps shouldn't create any sort of issue unless you strip the metal.
How so? as long as you glue them in with something like a waterproof epoxy they shouldn't let any water in. I'd be more worried about water collecting on the inside of the inserts and rusting them out over anything else.
PmooreOn paper this all sounds good, I just would not trust them when I am charging, seen too many insert related rip outs in my life to trust them. The issue is, even with epoxy, most people don't put them in enough to really be great at it and it leads to mistakes.
Bottom line, Trekkers will never effect your down hill performance and that is why I prefer them.
.lenconYeah well just like Pmoore said, it's not a great system and someone needs to install them correctly. I know Sander Hadley has or at least had quiver killers and they work well for him from what I understand. Where are you located?
ShireRatI'm in portland, but I'll probably be spending my season up in Washington.
cobra_commanderThe whole point of guardians is that you don't have to swap out. They ski fine. QC for between STH2 and Guardians seems like a lot of work for not a lot of gain.
Alpine treckers just suck.
.lenconAlright, I was just wondering cause the only place that's good of that I know is in Utah.

RDemJust a random question here: What bindings do you use for your trekkers? I've heard some bindings don't work as well because you can end up stepping out of them
