Ski In Peace, Elliot Shuster

Last Thurday we lost another one with roots deep in the Minnesota ski industry. At the young age of 18 Elliot passed away, and left behind a legacy that will live forever. Those of you who rode Hyland Hills frequently probably ran into him at some point in time, and had the chance to listen to his knowledge and be embraced by his warm smile. I'm so very blessed to not only call him my cousin, but also my dear friend. He's shreddin with the big guy in the sky now. Toss a front 4 next time you get a chance, that was his favorite trick. Ski in Peace, El. I'll see ya when I see ya.

What a great guy. I visited Hyland for the first time with my buddy in late February of this year, and we ran into Elliot and hit it off really well. He skied with us for that day, and we talked for hours in the shack just about everything. One of the nicest, thought provoking guys. So sorry to anyone else who knew Elliot. Here is a picture we took at Hyland on March 1st, 2015.

Again, he was a great guy, with a great smile.

SIP. Elliot was hands down the most energetic and welcoming skier I've ever met, not to mention an absolute genius. Made me feel welcome even when I was just starting out back in the day. Elliot made people he hadn't even met before feel like they had been friends since day one. So glad I was able to see him and film a little at the tail end of this season! Elliot will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Best wishes to the entire Shuster family and friends.

Captured him perfectly through this post Seth. I was lucky enough to get some seasons in where I got to ski with him and a warm smile captures him perfectly. Even on those negative 20 degree nights he was smiling and shredding. I got a front 4 for you soon Elliot, S.I.P

Elliot was one of the guys that could change your view on life in just a few minutes talking, he dropped so much knowledge on me I remember wanting to record our conversation because I wanted to remember everything he said. He was truly a guy that I would love to ski with again, SIP

I remember the first time I met Elliot he had just got new skis and he kept saying how much he loved them to Zach and I. I wish I could've known him more than I did. I also remember how happy he was and that he always was smiling. Heaven gains another one.

Elliot was an amazing person and will never be forgotten. He always had a great time skiing and made everyone around him have fun and feel welcome. He was also incredibly smart and I'll never forget his profound words in the Hyland chalet. Thinking of you and your family Seth.

I hate seeing this. Sad. I hope that at some point we ditch the stigmas attached to mental health and make it easier for people to get help/have more accessible options.

Damn just saw this. Only had one interaction with him and it definitely was along the lines of everything everyone else said. Was trying to learn fives on one of hylands small park jumps a few years back and slid out on some signature hyland ice right on an already badly bruised hip. Elliot skied up to check on me and I said I was fine but I was obviously hurting, he then stayed with me while I was sitting in the snow for a couple minutes and came inside with me along with another very stoked hyland human being whose name I can't remember but he's the little dude who kills it in the park and is always similarly as stoked as elliot was and smiling and chatting it up on the rope with randoms. Anyways they came in with me and we shot the shit for a while and they kept me company and kept asking if I was sure I was alright. I felt bad and kept telling them they should go ski but they hung out until I was ready to go get a few more laps in. That'll always stick with me because it was right after my grandma died and I was in a pretty shitty place and both elliot and the little dudes attitudes really inspired me and helped me see that there were still good things and good people out there.
