I Don't Know Shit About Filming: Go Pros

Hi M&A,

First, sorry for asking a question about a go pro. I realize you guys mostly work with much nicer and techy cameras, but I don't have the patience to learn how to work one or even care enough about the footage I get.

I've decided to buy a go pro. I'm trying to figure out which version of the go pro to buy. It will mostly be used for skiing, snorkling, and other stuff just fucking around. I guess the most intuitive answer would be to get the newest one (which I think is like the 4 black or something)...but maybe this has a bunch of bullshit features I don't need?

first, no question is a dumb question. (unless you are asking when Canon/Nikon will have 1080@240fps or if Canon or Nikon is better)

In terms of GoPro's i personally feel like unless you are serious about what you are doing the 4Black is a waste of money, I think the Hero 4 Silver is enough for most people. That being said, If you arent quite sure you want to spend 400$ on a gopro. The Hero+LCD or whatever they call it

Seems like a great camera for a great price. If you just want a solid cam to fuck around, that one seems like your best bet.

If you know what your doing you can actually make go pros look really nice. You can get a 3-axis gimble which actually stabilizes really nice. Nicer then a glidecam IMO. Film in 4k and add a little letter boxing and your footage will come out really nice.

Most people buy a gopro and ruin everything by having the shakiest footage ever. If your going for a dslr look letterboxing helps. 4K on the gopro is also really nice.

Never recommend to 'letterbox' to anyone ever again.

Letter boxing is nice. What do you have against it? It gives more of a cinematic feel

Appreciate the help, but I'm not necessarily looking to have super high quality footy. Mostly just looking to fuck around with my friends, upload it to iMovie, and see what I can do.

An edit I made a couple of seasons ago with a camera I no longer own to give you an idea of the type of "filming" we do.

OP buy a basic gopro 4, get a pole mount thingy and you'll be fine.
