Banff in a pinch

I'm going on a random road trip from Idaho this weekend to Banff and would really appreciate your advice!

We're leaving Wednesday afternoon and will hopefully have all day Thursday and Friday (maybe Saturday too depending on crowds, time, etc.) in Banff for some hiking, etc. Going with a group of 2 others - all of us are fit and have plenty of camping/hiking experience. Any ideas on good day trips or even an overnight? We would love to camp to save money. Good sights to see, etc. I've never been anywhere in BC before so have no idea what's the word on cool shit to see. Also any other advice for places to see along the way and back coming from northern Idaho?

You do realize that Banff isn't in BC don't you?

Do the Plain of Six Glaciers tea house trail. Check out Minnewaka, Peyto and Moraine lakes. Explore the Johnston Canyon. Scramble up a peak, there's tons of easy ones to choose from that can be done in a half day (think Yamnuska, Rundle, Cirque, Bow). Have dinner and beers at the brewery. Make a fool of yourself at the Dancing Sasquatch. If you want fewer tourists make your way into the Kananaskis, or even Yoho.

There are a million options in Banff, also it is in Alberta. I would avoid the touristy things like lake Louise and Johnson's Canyon though they are quite nice but really busy. Tons of good hikes / scrambles in that area.

i was just in Banff last week. Weather is awesome, hiking is awesome. Don't get tricked into doing hikes that you have to pay a bus fee for, $28 bus fee is not worth a 3 mile hike. do the c-level cirque hike for sure though. the very top of the hike isn't too worth it unless you continue past where the official hike ends. However, at the first sign of abandoned mining buildings (fairly close to the beginning of the hike) there is a side path that goes off into the trees and leads to this huge mound of crushed rocks (not sure what is was) with the most amazing view of lake Minnewanka. Don't do the johnston canyon hike, it's incredibly crowded and for how many people, families, and tourists there are crowding everything it really isn't worth it. Have fun! It's beautiful

I've never lived there in the summer but theres lot of sick hiking. sulphur is a good shorter hike. a lot of my friends have hiked cascade and it looks like a lot of fun. the town site has lots of info on hikes.
buy a park pass for your or they'll getcha. and don't be a retard because you can get fined in banff for a lot of shit. something like $20000 if you feed a bear.

also banff is in alberta bordering with bc
