shin-bangheck yes. i was just trying to get the point across to the other bigot that they can prevent concussions, but dont stop them. gracias for your tiempo
Prevent and stop mean the same thing you damn jackass, the word you should have highlighted is CAN. Helmets don't do much to stop concussions. Sure they can lessen the severity but your brain can still shake around.
This is incompletely irrelevant anyways. The fact of the matter is if you ski you put yourself at risk of head injuries that kill far more brain cells than drinking. If you hike or ski at high altitudes you are killing brain cells, and theres's many other activities that you participate in on a daily basis that make you less intelligent. It's all a matter of the degree of harm and for the average drinker the "loss of brain cells" is not a big deal.
If I can crash at someones place and trust them or I can get a cab I'll go pretty ham at a party. The rest of the time if I've got some shit to do first thing, or be on point for the next day I won't drink at all, likely because I'll have to drive home.
I'm super strict on that, I grew up working at the family business and one of our employee's was about 19 at the time fresh out of highschool. He seemed like a pretty okay guy. Came in to work on a Monday and he never showed up. Turned out he had a bunch of girls in his truck, was driving drunk, rolled it and killed all 4 in the back seat and seriously injured the 1 in the front, he walked away with some cuts and bruises. I was probably only 14 or so, so yeah that's stuck with me pretty good. Dude has been in jail now for 6 years. What a shitty fucking thing to do with your and other's lives.
shin-bangNot to mention in kills brain cells which can never be restored . I wrote a 6 page report on this topic earlier this year
Omg a 6 page paper? 6 whole pages? Jesus man you must be an expert!
shin-bangand good thing at least one person knows something
"How does alcohol harm the kidneys?
Your kidneys filter harmful substances from your blood. One of these substances is alcohol. Alcohol can cause changes in the function of the kidneys and make them less able to filter your blood. In addition to filtering blood, your kidneys do many other important jobs. One of these jobs is keeping the right amount of water in your body. Alcohol affects the ability of your kidneys to do this. When alcohol dehydrates (dries out) the body, the drying effect can affect the normal function of cells and organs, including the kidneys."
and yes helmets do prevent concussions. have you played football before? or have you even played a highschool sport???? imagine if the football players were flying around bashing heads without helmets on? youre saying thats better than with no helmet? come on man
Hmm strange because, and correct me if im wrong alcohol expert, but don't rugby players suffer from less overall concussions than football players? Do they wear helmets? Are you really stupid enough to think people would ram their heads into each other without a helmet on? Are you 12 or 13?

No your horribly misinformed. That's like comparing apples to oranges. Compare a football came wearing all pads with a helmets, then another with all pads and no helmet. Then you'll get an accurate result.
Rugby is played differently and with a lot different technique. Conventional wisdom is that rugby players do not have a sense of invincibility due to being without a helmet and pads and are therefore less prone to kill shots to the skull than a football player. again, if you played a high school sport I'm sure you would understand.
You're comparing two different sports played differently.

Rugby players suffer fewer concussions because of the techniques used to tackle(and how to be tackled), to ruck, and in scrums. Your head should never be hitting someone right on. You're taught to have your head go to either side of the player's body you're tackling. In rucks you're taught to cover your head if you're the one who was tackles and theres other techniques to prevent head to head contact. In scrums, your heads interlock and only your shoulders make contact. The only time I ever was concussed in rugby was from a high tackle which is super illegal.
milk_manA lot more people play football, so there will be more concussions
You're aware the rugby is popular multiple countries? The worldwide participation rate is 4 times higher than football. 4.5million as opposed to 1.2million (google/wikipedia answers)
shin-bangAlmost my exact words granite state. Suck my butt granite
Thanks for the clarification Ming, I know you've played rugby
(: my team won states this year /claim.
For real though. I can't speak for football but it seems like theres no standard for this stuff. 99% of rugby hits are to the hip when tackling but in football its different. It seems like there are way more aggressive and violent blows to the head.
I would imagine the constant play of rugby can be a factor in this too. Small yard advances at a time, not enough time to pick up full speed. It's also not necessarily a bad thing to get tackled in Rugby so players aren't fighting a tackle, they fall with it where as in football its different.

Dangggg Ming! And yes people are dirty, especially if there's bad refs. Getting ear holes, high lows, head hunting, ect.
eheathYou're still completely clueless about alcohol.
This.
Shin bang, your original argument was that alcohol kills brain cells. It doesn't. You also said that helmets prevent concussions when skiing. They don't. Your convoluted comparisons don't matter. You're wrong, shut up.
loganschnurRugby players seem to be doing alright.
Hell yeah we are.
As for this thread, clearly alcohol can be addictive and lead to emotional/mental and physical problems. There's no doubt about it. Some people are just willing to overlook these risks and drink anyways. Others are not. Nothing wrong with someone else choosing not to drink. I don't understand why people get so defensive over it.

I can tell you drink;) and no, helmets help prevent, but do not cure (read the thread)
And yes, it does kill Brain cells we've established that. Alcohol is a depressant. It literally does your body no favors. Doctors do say a small amount of wine at a certain interval is healthy

FYI the positive effects observed from the "1 glass of wine per night" reccomendation stems from the relaxation caused by the alcohol. Alcohol in moderation is good for the heart in other words.

Lol
So what is your iq? 20? Or 21?
You are so fucking stupid its astonishing. You are actually furthering my point and you dobt even realize it. Thats exactly why there are less concussions in rugby. Because rugby players dont wear helmets they dont lead with their head when making tackles, unlike in football. Ever heard of a spear? They made it an illegal tackle because morons were making the top of their helmet the lead source of contact leading to severe spine and head injuries. Its actually a highly discussed topic that football players throw their bodies around much more than rugby players because of all the pads and helmet. And if you dont believe me, do your little HS research method and look it up. Why do you think there have been tslks for years of getting rid of helmets in football? Why do some colleges now propose practices without helmets and some schools implement them? Im not misinformed at all, you just think that because you read a wikipedia article you are now an expert. You should stick to what you know, stealing from your parents liquor cabinet to get a buzz on with your friends and patiently waiting to get your first pubic hair.
Ps, i played 3 sports in HS bby ;)

Once again furthering my point. Why do you think players are taught these techniques? To limit then amount of injuries, especially to the head. Also, and there have been studies done on this, like I mentioned before the lack of pads means players are less likely to throw their bodies around. Once again why does america study rugby and its limited severe injuries?

So are you suggesting we shouldn't wear helmets so that we stay within our limits when participating in higher risk sports? I'm confused
MinggSo are you suggesting we shouldn't wear helmets so that we stay within our limits when participating in higher risk sports? I'm confused
You can't generalize all high risk sports in that regard. Motorcycle racing, race car driving, skiing, skateboarding, hockey, the list goes on. I think all he those sports should wear helmets. I'm saying, in regards to football and rugby, that there should be no helmets or pads. Rugby does it right, football does it wrong. Like I mentioned football players literally huck their bodies at others, sometimes at full speed, leading to far more severe injuries than in rugby. Plus in rugby you have to wrap, you can't just drop a shoulder into someone. Once again like I've now had to make clear 3 times, studies have proven that less pads/helmet=less severe injuries, at least to the head and spine. Shit some pro coaches think there won't be helmets in football in the next 10 years.

Ohhh okay gotcha. I agree with the less protection equals less injuries thing for sure. This is just so far off topic from drinking alcohol though haha.

ahh good to start off the morning with some moron on the internet lol
the only article i read was off the national kidney institution hahahhah youre so stupid its funny! hahahhaa yes i agree that there are less concussions in rugby because of the technique, that wasnt my argument.remember my little saying thats like comparing apples to oranges? ;)
my argument was about helmets and drinking alcohol and how alcohol is a depressant, and isnt good for your brain, kidneys, and as you all know your liver
Paedophile-PopeYou're aware the rugby is popular multiple countries? The worldwide participation rate is 4 times higher than football. 4.5million as opposed to 1.2million (google/wikipedia answers)
Woops I wasn't thinking
And when people are wearing helmets, they don't play as wisely. I guarantee a football player without a helmet isn't going to put their head down and lead the tackle with their head..

Literally do us all a favor and stop breathing. You aren't even a good troll.

If there were no helmets in football concussions would be greatly decreased. You'd be way less likely to use your head as a weapon. Take rugby for instance, it's very similar to football but has way less concussions because players aren't given a false sense of security. Other sports like baseball, hockey, & lax; helmets are absolutely needed for safety.
nocturnalActually yes studies show when people don't wear pads they don't hit as hard and they're actually less injuries. What are you not getting about that.
I understand that dude. The posts before that seemed like they were contracting but it wasn't. You really need to chill.
