Pro's boots

kylemcleanI know that you should go to a boot fitter and get foots beds and everything else when getting boots but what do pro's do?

If that are only allowed to use boots from their sponsor then do they do if there isn't a boot that fits them well? Do they just get massive amounts of work done?

A boot fitter fits boots. A boot salesman is not a boot fitter.

if you're selling ski boots you should know how to fit them its as simple as that. my first year working at a shop I spent the entire summer before the shop opened getting trained on how to fit and work on boots properly.

and to OP it all depends on the persons foot what boot they like that fits them the best, some people just get custom footbeds while some people need some fine tuning done to the actual shell of the boot ie shaving down the boot board a little punching out a pressure point ect.

Pros will ski a boot that fits them whether it's a race boot, all mountain boot, or park boot whatever fits best they will use.

Also a vast majority of boot brands these days (just about all of them) have a wide range of boots that cover most foot types so the chances of not a single boot from their sponsors range fitting them is very small. Also there is a huge amount of work that can be done on most boots to make them fit. I punched, ground, and adjusted my boots a huge amount before they fitted me really well.

All good advice in this thread but the main thing is there care a little bit less then the average skier. It may sound funny but pros are the easiest to help. They ski all the time so are just happy if you can get the boots to a point they don't hurt haha. You would be amazed some of the things I have seen pros do to try to fit there own boots. But yeah pretty much these days you can find a boot to fit from any brand and it just may need a few easy mods.

Most of the time, pros simply get sent product and have to get their boots fit and skis mounted on their own. And when that happens, lots of mistakes can happen.

In my experience, pros often get the wrong size boot (when I fit Tom Wallisch he had a 3cm shell fit and I had to swap out his boot with a different size that I had in stock) or at the very least they need to get boot work done because they are just like anyone else and have small weirdnesses taken care of.

Very rarely do you get an athlete who just doesn't fit in anything a brand has to offer. This is mainly due to the points Tom has already said but also most pros tests gear before they sign a contract. This is going to be their job for the next X amount of years, so if they take it seriously they make sure they are going to be happy wearing the gear all day long.
