In 2010, African American gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (msm)represented an estimated 72% (10,600) of new infections among all African American men and 36% of an estimated 29,800 new HIV infections among all gay and bisexual men. More new HIV infections (4,800) occurred among young African American gay and bisexual men (aged 13-24) than any other subgroup of gay and bisexual men.

In 2010, African American women accounted for 6,100 (29%) of the estimated new HIV infections among all adult and adolescent African Americans. This number represents a decrease of 21% since 2008. Most new HIV infections among African American women (87%; 5,300) are attributed to heterosexual contact.c The estimated rate of new HIV infections for African American women (38.1/100,000 population) was 20 times that of white women and almost 5 times that of Hispanic/Latino women.

And that's just one race that not counting the group as a whole, I'll be waiting for your response.

Obama is seriously so pathetic for completely turning around on this issue. If he was actually a Christian he wouldn't have changed his belief so fast. All he is is a career politician.. That's the only thing he's good at. So glad it's almost 2016..

The idea that changing one's mind is a bad thing is incredibly destructive in politics. The notion that it's a good thing to be so firm in your beliefs that you'll never back down regardless of how wrong you turn out to be is even worse.

I'm seriously getting to a point where I think people are too dumb and the world too complex for our political system to work in its present form anymore.

I'm not sure it would matter if it were half the size. The issue is more that no one can properly inform him or herself on everything that matters to the country, and being stupid animals with an inadequately evolved pre-frontal cortex and a penchant for tribalism most people don't even try and wouldn't unless forced to.

So they vote based on stupid issues like who supports gay marriage after deciding what tribe gets what side of that issue. "I'm on team conservative! Team conservative says no gay marriage!"

It's frustrating enough either to induce apathy or a burning desire to see every pundit lined up against a wall and shot. Or both on alternating days.

It doesn't help that the media forces their own ideals off on a population that is becoming less educated each year. Its insane the sway Fox News and CNN and MSNBC have over how they paint the election. I remember when Paul was running and climbing in the polls and the media doesn't even acknowledge him one bit. They control completely what the viewer sees, they know their demographic, and they use that influence to align uneducated, bigoted people with a certain candidates views per their umbrella corporations orders. Pretty crazy stuff.

I propose that we make everyone take an IQ test every few years and if you score below 85 you can't vote.

Better yet, have everyone take a test that actually pertains to the issues and the candidates' stances and views on them, and not let those who fail vote. My IQ is above 85 (I hope), but I don't follow politics all that closely and just don't know much about the people running for president or their platforms, so even if I do vote, it's not a particularly informed opinion I'm giving. The problem isn't that people are dumb, it's that people don't understand the issues or the candidates positions on them and vote based on some arbitrary quality a candidate may or may not have (Obama is black, Hilary is a woman, Romney is a Mormon, etc. etc.) more than their actual politics.

I think size absolutely has something to do with it, because in the 1700's and 1800's when America was still a small country, people felt and knew that their voting did make a difference because each vote was worth more, so people felt more of a civic responsibility towards their country and made sure they knew what they were doing when they were voting. Now, with a nation of 300 million, it's easy to feel like your vote is equivalent to a raindrop in an ocean. People don't think their vote is worth as much (which isn't necessarily an incorrect sentiment), and so don't put the time or effort in to really become informed and make a good decision based off that information.

indeed, my biggest issue is that in states like California, republican votes dont matter, and in states like Louisiana or Texas, democratic votes dont matter. Only swing states matter. The senate and the house of representatives is great for representing states, but the electoral college to me is useless and hurts real democracy when electing the president

Selecting the President is a big deal. But deciding where all the money goes and how the laws are made on the micro level effects you way more.

It should be up to that state IMO :)

Tingawell one thing we need to realize is the decision was still really close. only passed by one vote. So it is still a very disputed topic and we have a long way to go till it really is marriage equality in anything other than law.

Other than that can we talk about how much a dick Scalia is? Seriously.
