This is a huge day for the United States.

Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins

milk_manBut how do you know if they really care. Maybe it's just popular to "care"
nocturnalan equivalent would be not allowing Christians to get married
milk_manActually no they never had less rights than me. Don't play that card, I'm not stupid. It used to be illegal for both myself and the gay person to marry someone of the same sex. Just because I would never do it doesn't mean I ever had more rights than them. I hate this victimization
nocturnalFirst of all it wasn't illegal it just wasn't recognized and you're not gay so you didn't want to get married to a man, an equivalent would be not allowing Christians to get married. See how unfair that is you're not allowed to be married just because of your lifestyle ( not saying being gay is a lifestyle but you get my point)
milk_manThat is not comparable at all.
milk_manThat is not comparable at all.

WattsWhat's your view on divorce?
milk_manIt's stupid. And the people who get divorced likely didn't get married for the right reasons.
milk_manThat is not comparable at all.
J.D.He's right though, it isn't comparable. You aren't born a Christian. It's not an inherent quality like gender, race or sexual orientation. It's a choice, but more than that, it isn't really an identity. All being a Christian means is that you hold certain beliefs. Not really any different in concept than being, for example, a pro-lifer or a pro-choicer. Just different sets and kinds of beliefs.

nocturnalThrough milk mans family and most religus family's you get your religion because of your parents and where you are born. If he was born in the middle east he would be a Muslim during ancient Greece he would belive in zeus, And milk man has clearly been brain washed from birth.

nocturnalA gay person can't donate blood.
Yeah with good reason.
S.J.WNo, it's not a good reason. A person with HIV can't give blood. Being gay doesn't automatically make you HIV positive. And the entire gay community is trying to get away from that stereotype that every gay person is HIV positive.
nocturnalIts not a stereotype it's a fact you should probably look at the statistics for who has HIV in America. Gay men make up an astronomical amount of percentage of HIV in this country.
From the cdc: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) represent approximately 2% of the United States population, yet are the population most severely affected by HIV. In 2010, young gay and bisexual men (aged 13-24 years) accounted for 72% of new HIV infections among all persons aged 13 to 24, and 30% of new infections among all gay and bisexual men.
And if you lived in the UK for 3 months in the 1980s they suspect you have mad cow disease even though it would have shown up by now, and you also can't donate blood they're super cautious when it comes to this stuff. Not discriminating against gay people.
S.J.WYeah that's true, but only one in five men have aids. Which is super high, however to deny the other 4 in 5 men from giving blood purely on their sexual orrientation is stupid. If you want to give blood, just get tested before hand if you have any STD's. But don't issue a blanket ban on all gays not to give blood.
But black woman have higher rates of aids than their whites and hispanic counterparts. So we should ban all black woman from giving blood?
I know not giving blood isn't really a big issue with regards to equality, but it's the larger picture of how gays are perceived by the majority.
nocturnalGay men have over double the amount than black women.
You don't know what you're talking about, shut the fuck up, they are the highest group for AIDS and other transmittable disease its for safety not because of discrimination. Thas it end of discussion.

onenerdykidThat is definitely NOT the end of the discussion. All your statistics show is that a certain group(s) of people should be screened more, not banned altogether.
And more importantly is that the Red Cross tests EVERY blood donation before it given to a hospital:
http://www.redcrossblood.org/learn-about-blood/what-happens-donated-blood/blood-testing
So no matter what your fear is, all blood is tested and screened before a hospital gets it.
J.D.I feel like the red cross rules are one of those things where it's like, "we realize this is a bunch of bullshit, and totally wrong in terms of theoretical ethics, but we don't have the resources to screen everyone so we're just going to have to do something morally questionable in order to do our jobs effectively".
It's a similar argument to profiling by airport security.

louie.miragsIn 2015 with the age of the internet, you need to post sources when spewing info like that.. you know better
Granite_StateMaybe do a little spell checking too. Reading his posts is fucking painful.
louie.miragsI just realized he was quoting the cdc. I missed that at first. Either way, the red cross runs test on the blood. He sounds like an old man from the 80s who is afraid of shopping at the same store as a gay man because he may catch aids.
nocturnalShopping and blood transfusions are not the samething. Of course not all gay people have AIDS, but a shockingly high number of them do. And quite a few people in a percentage don't even know they have it. If you want to go with that f*** it let's have IV drug users and everybody donate, and then we'll just leave it up to the Red Cross to filter out the sick people and not sick people. Because I'm sure a false negative has never happened before during a transfusion.
It would just cost more because you would have to do more screenings which costs money.
If we ever have a serious blood shortage then yes we can revisit the matter of how we're going to screen certain people when donating blood.
louie.miragsGay people need not apply. I wreckon we don' want yer kind 'round here boy.

milk_manYou've been brainwashed since college. But it's hard to tell if you've even been to college by your spelling and grammar.
nocturnalO yeah did the verifiable evidence, and science experiments brain wash me?
milk_manYou've been brainwashed since college. But it's hard to tell if you've even been to college by your spelling and grammar.
nocturnalIt's any group of people with a high percentage of hiv, that i am against what about that are you not getting? I also belive people who use needles should not donate blood either. Does that mean the people who do heroin are also being treated unfairly? If a group has a 1 in 5 people that could have a deadly virus they should not be transfering blood to other people. I'm not against gay people I'm just against a high percentage of positive HIV people being able to donate blood, and lucky for me the Red Cross agrees.
theabortionatorYou stupid cunt. Making the argument that IV rug users and gay people are pretty much the same thing? What the fuck is wrong with you?
Seriously?
Who CHOOSE to inject drugs. People don't choose to be gay.
"Blacks represent approximately 12% of the U.S. population, but accounted for an estimated 44% of new HIV infections in 2010. "
Let's not allow blacks to give blood either. That'd be chill.
This isn't the fucking 80's, let's do something we never see to do and revisit rules that have been in place for a while and see if they really make sense.
People who have been in a monogamous homosexual relationship almost their entire life can't give blood because they most likely have aids but a heterosexual that fucks everything that moves without protection is no worries.
And honestly if we weren't being pushed by stupid misguided fucks to cut down on any of it we would have a TON more funding for testing. Instead people are still trying to push this idea that nobody should have sex until marriage, and therefore there should be no access to sex education, condoms, STD screening, etc.
It's 2015. We need to step up our game.

milk_manWhat does verifiable evidence have to do with gay marriage
nocturnalI dont get why all of you guys are upset over this.
mirozYou're not wrong, really, in any of your arguments. It's more that your arguments are shitty and fall on the wrong side of a fine line.
nocturnalI just don't think you guys get it then. Any group that has a high risk of hiv shouldn't donate blood.
gay men fall in that catagory IV users fall into that category not saying they're the same just saying they both fall into that category of high risk of having or getting hiv.
Lesbians however do not fall under that category so it's totally fine for them to do it. It's not about being a gay man it's about the numbers.
milk_manYou've been brainwashed
theabortionatorthey'll still ask me to donate blood. "Omg there's huge shortages we need blood, please everyone donate" "JK we don't want your fucking blood!"
