This is a huge day for the United States.
President Obama ‏@POTUS3m3 minutes ago
Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins

milk_manFor the same reason that murder is illegal. You could also say they are imposing my beliefs on the population in that instance too.
milk_manThis issue really can't be solved though. Because according to Christians, God invented marriage and the only way a marriage is legitimate is if it fits His standards. While the other side believes that the government defines marriage, and that if it fits their standards it is legitimate.
So to each his own I guess. Because the two separate worldviews will never see this the same way
milk_manYour post may be rhetorical, but I'll go for it anyway. Divorce should not be illegal because there are instances where it is justified-even in the Bible. When a spouse is unfaithful the Bible says that divorce is an option, but not required.
But I guess I agree that divorce for any stupid reason shouldn't be legal, but this is 'Murica and people are ignorant of reality anyway. So we will continue on our broken path.
milk_manShow me a verse that says that in the New Testament.
milk_manThey can have all the benefits they want. I don't care. That's not what I care about. It's not that hard to understand.
milk_manNo, but apparently my English classes were. :) 😉
milk_manI care about what marriage means. And I'm upset that the government thinks they can redefine something that they didn't create.
milk_manWill you elaborate?
milk_manThen who did?
milk_manDid you get that definition from Google? Heheh...
I will type this slowly. Read it slowly. I'm not mad at anyone for sinning. Want to know why? Because I am a sinner. I have no room to judge.
If gay people want to be together forever and have lots of legal benefits, cool! Go for it. But calling it marriage offends me deeply. Because to me, marriage is sacred.
milk_manActually you're wrong. It is in the New Testament, too.
milk_manIt doesn't get much clearer than Romans 1:26-27... lol
ndyeAlso please respond to my other call outs of your claim on religion
Huck_NorrisSee this is the distinction you're failing to realize. Marriage was never "yours" in any capacity. People were getting married for thousands of years before Jesus, and they get married now in all kinds of ways that "aren't Christian". Why aren't you freaking out over other religions' customs, arranged child weddings, divorce or adultery with the save fervor? It's just disingenuous that you attach such importance to gays yet every other non-Christian denomination-also "unholy"- is totally fine.
Beyond that though, there are two arms to "marriage". There is religious marriage, which consists of the customs and specific religious rituals that make it unique to that culture.
Then we have the LEGAL arm of marriage- the rights provided by the state married couples get through estate, insurance and taxation. This has absolutely no connection whatsoever to your religion and this is truly what gays want- equal protection from the government. They don't give a shit about you or your church and they don't care about your religions acceptance in any way, shape or form.
The fact that you expect the entire country to adhere by the laws of your personal religion- and have the government back you up- means you have no idea what the separation of church and state is, nor do you understand that the Christian faith doesn't own the term marriage or the legal rights it gives.
You're entitled to believe whatever you want, that's your right. Everyone else also has the right to tell you and Jesus to fuck off though and that's what you are flat out refusing to understand. The freedom OF religion also entails the freedom FROM religion.
Above and beyond that, shellfish and tattoos are mentioned in the same breath in Leviticus and none of you are up in arms about the abomination of shrimp and clams being legal and not one protest is happening outside a tattoo parlor today. These reasons are basically why you're full of shit AND an ignorant bastard to boot. Go fuck yourself.

SFBdo you ever have an actual retort to what people or saying or do you always resort to personal insults because you cant handle not everyone is a hyper liberal feminist

nocturnalI don't think you understand what marriage actually is or means.
milk_manAre your parents still together?
milk_manAre your parents still together?
nocturnalDo my parents live in the same home on the same insurance policy and have to check with each other before they make a financial decision? Answer my question marriage was not invented by Christianity.
milk_manAre your parents married?
nocturnalYes and no, now get to your point that you are trying to make.
milk_manI do know what marriage is and what it means because my parents have been happily married for a little more than 35 years. (Yes, they are old haha)
msewardJesus wanted love, peace, tolerance of others? Am i Right?
nocturnalWhat your parents religious belief on marriage is and what marriage actually is are two different things. You don't seem to understand that.
milk_manMarriage existed long before there were tax benefits for being married

nocturnalYou keep avoiding my question Christianity didn't invent marriage you're not responding to that.
milk_manWhat's your question man..? Well if you believe in God and that the Bible is true, then yes God did invent marriage soon after He created the world. But you don't believe that so I don't what else to tell you, friend.

msewardAs someone brought up in a small town with a majority christian religious community I will tell you this is what I notice.
99% of people who use the religion are just using it as an excuse because they were taught to hate gays. Theres so many "abominations" in the bible we ignore because its inconvenient.
Why aren't conservatives campaigning for outlawing shellfish or the excecutions of people that wear polyester and cotton on the same day? Oh right, because that part of the bible is inconvenient and irrelevant in 2015.
If you're going to stand by the bible, stand by the fucking bible. Dont just use the parts that enable you to hate others and ignore the parts that are inconvenient to you.
Jesus wanted love, peace, tolerance of others? Am i Right?
SFBclassic cherry picking example out of leviticus which isnt followed by most christian denominations.
mirozIronic that you call him out for cherry picking when he's calling bible thumpers out for cherry picking? Hmmm...
SFBclassic cherry picking example out of leviticus which isnt followed by most christian denominations.
MinggMilkman, I respect you and your religious beliefs and think it's cool that you're standing up for what you believe in. You believe that marriage is sacred in your religion, right? However, there are plenty of men and women who get married that don't practice/believe in your religion. They don't do it for religious purposes. Are they wrong too? I mean, does that offend you as well? Or is it less offensive because it is less obvious? I understand that christians believe marriage is (traditionally) between a man and woman and you can hold that belief personally. Does it actually directly affect you though if a man marries a man, or woman marries a woman? Some people don't believe in christianity like you do which is cool too. The beauty of america is we are free to practice whatever religion we want. So it's unfair to hold everyone to your values.
By all means, you can practice your religion however you want. It's just not cool to think everyone has to live the same way you do.
mirozIt's not a matter of belief, homie. There's tangible, visible EVIDENCE that a) god didn't create the world when the Bible said he did (if he did it 4 billion years ago, long before humans existed, fine, that one's still up for debate), and b) people were getting 'married' long before the Bible existed.
MinggThe earth is most definitely 4 billion years old, or whatever the number is.
nocturnalLook it up next time before you post people will take you more seriously
SFBexample out of leviticus which isnt followed by most christian denominations.
MinggSorry... I was just going off the dude I quoted.
nocturnalNot only do I accept your apology but I also embrace it we know the earth is about 4.6 billion years old.
MinggApproximately 4.54 to be exact according to radiometric dating(:
S.J.WBut one is cherry picking to justify their hate towards gays while the other person is cherry picking to highlight religions hypocrisy.
SFBok so they are both incorrect. neither point is more valid than the other.
MinggApproximately 4.54 to be exact according to radiometric dating(:
milk_manI do not approve of gay marriage at all. I'm fine with gay people.. I will treat a person well no matter what. But for them to be called "married," that's when I've had enough.
SFBok so they are both incorrect. neither point is more valid than the other.

nocturnalIf you love him so much, why don't you marry him?
S.J.WBUD; an acronym used for in the closet homosexuals to identify and meet up with other in the closest homosexual. It originated during the 1980's from the lesbian community within Texas, but over time as shifted to a more general invitation for homosexual sex. BUD stands for Breasts Over Dick.
.frenchyYour reading comprehension is utter SHIT, as usual... I love his icon, not him. hahahahaha
