This issue really can't be solved though. Because according to Christians, God invented marriage and the only way a marriage is legitimate is if it fits His standards. While the other side believes that the government defines marriage, and that if it fits their standards it is legitimate.


So to each his own I guess. Because the two separate worldviews will never see this the same way

Your post may be rhetorical, but I'll go for it anyway. Divorce should not be illegal because there are instances where it is justified-even in the Bible. When a spouse is unfaithful the Bible says that divorce is an option, but not required.


But I guess I agree that divorce for any stupid reason shouldn't be legal, but this is 'Murica and people are ignorant of reality anyway. So we will continue on our broken path.

And if you would like me to send you some fucked up bible verses in the New Testament I would be more than happy to, I do not believe or at least am unsure of a New Testament verse telling one to kill their wife for being unfaithful.

They always defend themselves saying that the new testament is the word written for christians and old testament for the Jewish, so much for the old testament commandments

what do you think should define marriage? where do you draw the line? A christians definition is easy, its between a man and a woman. but the governments definition, the government that gives you benefits as a married couple, needs to have a line somewhere, and now it seems very unclear where that is.

For me the line is consent. Inanimate objects, animals, children, the severely mentally handicapped are incapable of giving consent and thus marriage shouldn't available to them all willy nilly. This obviously has some exceptions, particularly in regards to the issue of mental capacity.

I was thinking about this today, I don't think I can have a problem with bigamy, really. Who am I to say that three women can't be married to the same guy, if that's what they all want. I don't know.

With regards to gay marriage, all that needed to be rewritten was a few pronouns and nothing changed what so ever.

Incest- One of the partners can't give 100% consent as usually in a family there is a power dynamic and when there is a power dynamic one party can't give 100% consent even if they feel as if they're giving consent. It's the same power dynamic that stops teachers from having sex with students. And obviously the genetic mutations that happen from inbreeding. Just look at SFB.

Marrying dogs or objects- they can't give consent.

Polygamy- Marriage is a contract. Sex doesn't change that. A few pronouns switched, but from a legal perspective everything still worked the exact same. But in a polygamous marriage, the entire definition would have to rewritten. In a divorce, who gets custody of the children, or how does alimony work? Who's next of kin and who gets the final say on when to pull the plug? Does employer benefits apply to all the partners? Does everyone get to immigrate at once? All these questions that didn't arise from gay marriage will arise from polygamy.

So gay people even if they live together shouldn't be allowed to legally tie their financials insurance policies and assets together. That's only for a man and woman? You know marriage has a lot of benafits it's not just a title.

The first monogamous religions date back to the 2300s BC. It had nothing to do with religion but ensuring that a man and a woman had monogamous relations to ensure clear lineages.

See this is the distinction you're failing to realize. Marriage was never "yours" in any capacity. People were getting married for thousands of years before Jesus, and they get married now in all kinds of ways that "aren't Christian". Why aren't you freaking out over other religions' customs, arranged child weddings, divorce or adultery with the save fervor? It's just disingenuous that you attach such importance to gays yet every other non-Christian denomination-also "unholy"- is totally fine.

Beyond that though, there are two arms to "marriage". There is religious marriage, which consists of the customs and specific religious rituals that make it unique to that culture.

Then we have the LEGAL arm of marriage- the rights provided by the state married couples get through estate, insurance and taxation. This has absolutely no connection whatsoever to your religion and this is truly what gays want- equal protection from the government. They don't give a shit about you or your church and they don't care about your religions acceptance in any way, shape or form.

The fact that you expect the entire country to adhere by the laws of your personal religion- and have the government back you up- means you have no idea what the separation of church and state is, nor do you understand that the Christian faith doesn't own the term marriage or the legal rights it gives.

You're entitled to believe whatever you want, that's your right. Everyone else also has the right to tell you and Jesus to fuck off though and that's what you are flat out refusing to understand. The freedom OF religion also entails the freedom FROM religion.

Above and beyond that, shellfish and tattoos are mentioned in the same breath in Leviticus and none of you are up in arms about the abomination of shrimp and clams being legal and not one protest is happening outside a tattoo parlor today. These reasons are basically why you're full of shit AND an ignorant bastard to boot. Go fuck yourself.
