And as you read in my previous comment, I do not live in San Francisco and therefore do not regularly go to Giants games. I couldn't care less whether dip is allowed there or not. Yet, if I claim gay marriage should be banned because it's gross, liberals think I'm literally Satan incarnate. There's no consistency in the modern liberal ideology.

Too be honest, I don't understand why they care so much about marriage. It doesn't really get you anything. I kind of wish straight marriage was outlawed. I'd still have a wedding and all that cute stuff but wouldn't have to worry about the girl taking half my salary if we ever divorce.

Also, some gays are just plain annoying. That high-pitched voice they manufacture for themselves is just awful.

My mind is blown that it is 2015 and there are educated people in the United States who hide behind religious dogma in order to attempt to marginalize portions of society.

Guns aren't people... It makes sense for the states to handle gun rights... just as it does for the states to handle marijuana legalization and the like.. but when it comes to the treatment of actual breathing human beings, no matter what their sexual orientation, it's pretty important that the whole country be united in giving that minority the same individual rights as others... otherwise do you think the southern states would have ever been on board with desegregation? We'd still have apartheid and lynch mobs down there otherwise..

No arguments, no debate, no long drawn out conflict over the decision. Just BAM! gay marriage is suddenly legal. Splits the country in two conflicting groups, neither of which will notice the fast tracking. I feel so helpless, our government is so messed up and TPP is going to fuck everything up for civilians who aren't filthy fucking rich. I see now why people prefer to ignore politics, ignorance is bliss. What can I do short of starting a revolution? I don't have the cash to buy out my representatives, and I don't have the cash to convince people not to vote for them. And all the while, ignorant fools are arguing over a basic human right such as marriage. My god, America. My dear fucking god are we fucked up.

How's it off tangent when this thread is directly about gay marriage...?

I get it, the TPP is a big deal and it can effect many americans, surely, but at the same time, who knows whether it's going to even go through at this point... it requires a lot of support from a lot of countries here.. and additionally, we don't know the individual interests abroad, much less at home to really have an idea of what's being negotiated - not that we can know anyway due to the lack of transparency.

It will be interesting to see what goes down with the trade deal, but i'm going to go ahead and guess it won't sink the USA into another recession or something at this point.. even if it does seem to benefit larger corporations...

Also IMO, gay rights are a big issue. They shouldn't be because it's fucking stupid, but there are plenty of religious people/ and other homophobes out there. In a perfect world this wouldn't have been an issue, but it's not.

I mean there are lot's of big issue out there, but this one was pretty big. What would you say is bigger/more pressing?

I feel like the economy is a huge one but we have not and will continue not to do anything positive fixing that mess regardless of where we throw it on our priorities list.

So a successful campaign for some human rights, is pretty decent imo.

Idk. I just hate the notion that gay rights is a minor issue that doesn't really matter.

Civil rights are an easy issue for people to get passionate about. It doesn't require much knowledge of the issue. Where as something like Greece going bankrupt or wallstreet corruption requires much more knowledge and research of the issue and is much more complex than just two dudes being able to marry.

Also, there is no definite solution to climate change, or wallstreet corruption so when people campaign to end it or lobby their government, it's hard to see results. Take Joseph Kony for example, he blew up in 2012 and the whole get Kony thing was huge, for about 3 days. Then after no visible action everyone stopped caring. If day by day more governments were acting on Kony and you could see visible progression of disarming the LRA then it would gather more and more traction.

As the debate over marriage equality got more intense in recent years and we started discussing it at family gatherings, he would always say he is against gay marriage (even though he is gay himself) because he liked being able to play the field, and felt like he never had to fully commit to any one person because it wasn't legal for him to marry. So now he says his whole game is ruined. He is pretty hilarious.


And don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to make it seem like this wasn't a big issue. I just see so much passion and fight for it that I wish people would show the same towards others.

Yeah, I mean, I get it... Gays being able to be married isnt as crazy big as ending gay slavery or something of that notion... but for the USA - the Alpha Male on the block - to go and say that you can have your rainbow cake and eat it too, it's a pretty profound situation, and a massive step in the direction towards 1. social equality 2. financial equality and 3. keeping direct theological beliefs outside of the sphere of law where they should be.

Not going to get into the gun debate thing, but I think, and you have to agree, there are laws that shouldn't be left to states. Should states be allowed to make laws discriminating against people of different races, genders, ethnicity? No, fuck that.

I love the SC decision, it sort of feel like a righteous running back stiff arming all these little homophobic idiots and diving into a rainbow endzone.

I mean there wouldn't be segregation or anything in this day and age, i'm just talking about simpler stuff, gun rights and such. let Cali be a fucking pussyville full of pussies like it is now, while the states who actually understand guns can do as they please, Texas, Georgia, etc. confederate flag should be a state thing too, who cares what morons in CT think about a SOUTHERN flag...? I do not approve of gay marriage at all. I'm fine with gay people.. I will treat a person well no matter what. But for them to be called "married," that's when I've had enough.
