This is a huge day for the United States.
President Obama ‏@POTUS3m3 minutes ago
Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins

SeeeeemjiThe ruling itself doesn't really affect me, and I pretty much have a 'meh' attitude towards it.
But, how about we stop giving ANY credit to this hypocrite. He spent YEARS campaigning against gay marriage. Trying to take credit for something you openly fought against really makes my blood boil.
ndyeThis is true, he did flop on this issue when he realized what the mainstream was.

louie.miragsHe is a smart man. He knows the mainstream opinion. He was just pandering and playing the game of politics.

ski.the.eastcringing so hard
every republican conveniently forgets separation of church and state
jblaskiPlease, explain to all of Newschoolers what exactly you think "separation of church and state" is, and where in the constitution it says that.
DingoSeanI'm going to the SF Pride Parade on Sunday. It's about to be an absolutely FUCKING INSANE scene.
J.D.If you actually read the judgment there are some fairly hilarious bits in there. This is from Roberts's dissent:
"the Court invalidates the marriage laws of more than half the States and orders the transformation of a social institution that has formed the basis of human society for millennia, for the Kalahari Bushmen and the Han Chinese, the Carthaginians and the Aztecs. Just who do we think we are?"
YEAH, YOU TELL 'EM JOHN! How dare we, the United States Supreme Court, question the wisdom and unfailing moral compass of the Aztecs? Holy Quetzalcoatl has decreed that marriage shall be between a man and a woman, and if it's good enough for the feathered serpent it's good enough for me!
Now, the virgins are almost here, where's my sacrificial dagger... knew I left it around here somewhere...
theabortionatorYeah. Kind of tired of seeing ell these posts congratulating Obama. Take his dick out of your mouth, set your pom poms down, grab a beer and celebrate.
DingoSeanI don't know man... I don't see many posts congratulating Obama at all.
...Either way, eh. This isn't about Obama's legacy. Politicians gonna pander, but this is a positive ruling that directly involves the people of this country who have been fucked over since antiquity. That's what matters.

DingoSeanLmao. How do we have a jackass who uses this sort of logic in charge of jack dick squat?
ALL HAIL MONTEZUMA. WE NEED MORALITY.

WoldsWorldWhat I don't get is that marriage must be legal in order for it to be legitimized in this so called free country of ours. The whole idea that we need the government's stamp of approval in order to say if were married to someone is crazy! That's why I find it funny that everyone's treating this Supreme Court decision like it's some freedom parade. You do all realize that you're celebrating our government changing the legality of something that they should have no business governing in the first place. I true victory for individual liberties would be one where the government has no say on the matter of marriage.

ScaredwhiteboyThis is a huge step backwards for the United States. The Tenth Amendment explicitly grants all powers to the states that are not in the Constitution. Marriage is not in the Constitution. Forcing marriage law on the states is patently unconstitutional. Today the justices made their decision not based on the rule of law, but based on their own personal preferences. All five justices who voted for the majority should be ashamed of themselves.
Oh and how about the fact that five unelected officials of the judicial branch just created law in the United States. Can't have an oligarchy with those pesky checks and balances getting in the way!
theabortionatorUm, you can get unnoficially married to a bookshelf but if you want to have the legal aspects such ad taxes, health etc it needs to be recognized. Do you not grasp this? Also this didnt change in this ruling
Granite_StateCan't wait to see the backlash from the southern states.

WoldsWorldOh, kind of like how a man can say he's a woman even though he has a dick?
safarisamI'm just so excited to see my friends get married and aaaaaaaah!!!
Now to see what happens with Wisconsin and their nutjob govener.

the.hellion.Fuck your icon, dick
But - this is actually a good point - I'm not American, so I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I don't understand how the supreme court can force the legalization of gay marriage in every state, but states have the overriding power to legalize federally prohibited substances (eg. marijuana) - please no one in power find this, read this and figure out a way to ruin legalized weed or gay marriage everywhere, because it's awesome, but I'm still confused.
JD, any insight?
J.D.Yeah almost nothing you just said is right.
KravtZAgreed. Im all for gay marriage rights...people should be able to marry who they want and this has no impact on my life in anyway as a straight person.
That being said...this law created sets DANGEROUS precedent for the supreme court...its a clear violation of the 10th amendment.
The problem lies with the mass uninformed population of people who get their news from fox, cnn, etc. ALL major news sources are insanely biased and preach a certain agenda whatever it is. People are to blinded to actually see what happened. Its also a very very sad state when Obama's approval goes through the roof for legalizing gay marriage when he has been one of the worst presidents in US history...saw countless FB posts of people who now love Obama for doing something that has zero impact on 99.99999% of the US's lives
DubV134Lighting the White House rainbow colors was gay. I am definitely on the dgaf side of this but I think that was a bit far....
Precident is set - when marijuana gets legalized across the board they better light that bitch up green with fog machines in every window blowing smoke
L_Bsnood dogg will host the event.

S.J.WFrenchy, just because your dog doesn't say no, doesn't mean it's saying yes. A dog can't give consent, therefore you are raping your dog. I know you would love to marry your dog and this step in the way of love and equality may have you thinking you can marry your dog soon enough, but like I said a dog can't give consent.
