What is your opinion on the matter? Should it be legal? Should it be illegal? Only under certain circumstances?
Discuss.

iFlipNew topic: Let's discuss why OP's mother didn't exercise her legal right in a certain area, and what a mistake she made in not exercising said right.
Furrer92It is legal, the Supreme Court has ruled several times that it is a form of freedom of speech
S.J.WComes down to freedom of speech, if flying a flag is considered freedom of speech, then burning a flag is considered freedom of speech.
That being said, anyone who burns their national flag should have their citizenship removed. Aint no country got time for those fuckers.

hishighnessshi I'm gay and am sorry for posting something that dumb in the comments of this thread.
Paedophile-PopeYou contradict yourself. What one is it?

theabortionatorYes. It shouldn't even be a question. The flag is a fucking symbol. If you burn the flag you aren't hurting anyone other than some peoples feelings.
It's funny that people seem to care more about defending a symbol than the actual country. In these elections we vote for the worst fucking people, because we're useless ignorant potatoes, and then we get all butthurt about a flag represents in terms of the confederate flag, and more butthurt about people lighting an ugly piece of fabric/vanilla ice's jacket on fire.
I really don't see the point in burning it, so I'm not saying I support it, but it just fucking baffles me that people are so outraged about this shit yet they don't do anything positive/actually do negative shit to this country.
America, you're super duper fucking special.
hishighnesssKid you need fucking help, go see a therapist. This really isn't the place.
shin-bangThank you for apologizing. Well let it slip this time.. But don't let it happen again...

JAHpowIsn't burning a retired flag the proper procedure for disposing of it?

shin-bangPeople get so angry because so many people have lost their lives or given up something to protect this country.
I feel like the people who have no respect for the flag have never talked to vets or served this country. Sit down with a local war vet or something and have them tell you how much of a living hell it was ( if you can even get them to talk about it. Most won't) these people gave up their lives and limbs to serve the US. It's like a punch in the face if you will.

MrGnarlsonIf you think burning your countries flag is OK, then you should be stoked that gay marriage is legal now because you are gay.

VTbass802What the fuck does being gay have to do with this? You seem to fit the stereotypical "patriotic", homophobic American mold pretty well.

MrGnarlsonYou read one thing I say and know me so well. Get the hell out of this country if you want to stomp the flag and take VTbass802 and his boyfriend with you.

scratchproteenits a free country, you're welcome to leave.
/QUOTE]
Free country meaning it's free for people to express their issues with the country just as somebody is free to express their love for the country. What would you do if the United States no longer felt like your home? Would you just uproot yourself and your family and leave or would you voice your displeasure and attempt to restore things to their original order?
scratchproteenIf you don't like the flag/country seriously get the fuck out and go live in what ever magical paradise you want, guess what its a free country, you're welcome to leave.
brotoListen dude. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for America and what it stands for and all that. I don't go around burning any flags and I don't condone people who do. But people who say that disrespecting the flag is disrespecting the people who fought for our freedom are really delusional. When you sign up for the military, you should know you're fighting for the US. The same country that has freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Just like you said, it's a free country. Our country was a groundbreaking one in that it was one of the first where opposing viewpoints to the people in power could try to peacefully make amends to our government. So, you're right. I am welcome to leave. But I am also completely welcome to stay here and voice my opinion and try to change the government how I see fit.
What i'm saying is, you tell people that they can't disrespect the flag, and you undermine everything that this nation was built on, and therefor what our soldiers fight for. People who burn flags or stomp on them are exercising the rights given to them by the US. To deny them that right would be unamerican.
Should burning the flag be legal? yes
Does that mean everyone should just go burn a flag for the fuck of it? no
scratchproteenNo it should not be legal. You can voice your opinion through online forum, through peaceful protest, through voting and so many other options. Flag burning should not at all happen.
