.Hugo.I have absolutte musky fever right now so im not even bass fishing unless I bring out my friends that dont fish much, but even now they want to musky fish lol. It also doesnt help that the tiger musky lake is literally under 5 minutes from my place. I dont suppose anyone in here wants to talk musky techniques haha

Ive never tried ned rigging, maybe ill give it a go here soon since it feels like my rotator cuff is fucked from hucking giant baits. I can really see that working well on deep weedlines in clear pressured lakes. I doubt anyone is throwing that.

For swimbaits I have a 7'11" okuma guide select or something along those lines with a shimano cardiff 401a that doubles as my second musky reel. Havent thrown any swimmers at bass yet but ive kinda been waiting till they are suspended out deep then im gonna throw some 6" hudds at em. Actually I lied ive caught some bass prespawn on a 6" uncle manny wake bait. Worked really well over the thick stuff. Stuck a 3.5 lber on my third cast with it. Also caught a couple northern on my behemoth of a glide bait ive been using for musky

Huck_NorrisNice! I've never fished for musky or pike specifically and wouldn't know the first thing about it aside from trawling with buck tails unfortunately. I'd love to but it's just not really doable here afaik. I can't even imagine hoisting a 52" fish haha

Ned rigs are strangely effective. It's weird how well they work.


Sick rig man, that's a kickass setup! Love the big wheel reels. I'm using a Dobyns Champion 705cb glass and a Curado I currently. A little short for swimbaits and glides but it's also my crank and jerkbait rod too so it works.

I like throwing hudds and such, but I have to admit that glide baits are my new favorite thing. As sketchy as it can be to send open hooks into the dark & deep, they just slay it. That wide slither just draws strikes and is crazy fun to watch. My Slide Swimmer is my fave but the iSlide and the S-Song aren't far behind. I can't stop.

Also I just remembered- do you still have that Giron I was supposed to buy from you? I forgot all about that!

.Hugo.honestly fishing for musky or big pike its kinda unreal how well just turning bucktails works... even though every and their mother throws them. You can burn em over shallow weeds and ive even brought fish up in 20 fow with em

Ya i like the setup, but that idk how long that cardiffs gears are gonna last with musky baits. Ive read people have had to toss em after 1 season... shoulda just sprung for the calcutta

I have a few glide baits but have yet to try them out for bass. The one musky glide bait i have is sexy as hell though, had to buy it out of lithuania because they dont carry em in the us haha. And I dont think I could justify the $50 for one of the bass ones with how beat up the toothy critters will make it, not too mention I dont think the hardware is made to hold up to that kind of beast

And ya i do still have the giron, still hasnt seen the agua yet either

Huck_NorrisYeah I definitely get scared of hooking them on cover, and pickerels have definitely whacked them but muskies etc are on another level altogether... I would not be throwing pricey glides anywhere near water that had them, that's for sure. Not without some major steel leaders anyways.

It hurts to spend anything more than $30 money on a bait, but I can't imagine losing one of my favorites. I know a guy who lost a $400 Roman Made to a snag, ugh- can't even imagine OWNING one let aloe sending it to the bottom. I'd be tying on a float and coming back with scuba shit without a doubt haha

Tiiiiiny (like 1/16-1/10) finesse jigheads on a 2.75" stickbait (basically half a senko) worked almost like a shakyhead. I had my reservations but caved and tried it last fall- talk about crazy bite!! It gets snagged a bit but I could not believe how many fish I was catching doing almost nothing.


You only really want to use it when you don't have a ton of weeds but it works crazy good. The only thing is that you have to have the drag set low or you're going to bend hooks.

Mr.noodlei saw this online a while ago so one day during the spring I wasn't catching anything and I just cut a senko in half and Texas rigged it and I caught like 3 smaller large mouth but they were good sized for the lake we were fishing

I think patagonia makes a pretty cool one with mountains inside a trout. Rep your water also has state themed hats, some of them are pretty cool if i remember right

Also I've come to the conclusion that I can't handle stretchy line under any circumstances. Clear is fine but it has to be stout enough to not stretch much at all like 8#+ CXX or something.

.Hugo.Chatterbaits are awesome over shallow grass, especially pre and post spawn. If you really get into them look around some too, there are a lot better bladed jigs out there.

Ya thats why i dont use mono (except for swimbaits). All braid and fluorocarbon for me

Huck_NorrisYeah it can be tough staying lead free tho, a lot of the good stuff is no bueno in my state.

That said, please feel free to throw out some suggestions, I'm sort of new to obsessing over them. Passive use for years but I've really gotten into them lately and I'm always down to check stuff out.
