Why do kids my age get all wrapped up in ""relationships""

Sup ns (so first off the age group were talking here is like 17-18), so after Twitter was raging about how this dude cheated on his girlfriend and all this relationship crap, I'm wondering now what's wrong with people .

Like I like women and all, but this generation is all wrapped around the axel about relationship goals and think everything is so great, until ya end up with an std or all of a sudden boom the chick is pregnant or something.

So what is it that makes kids want these relationships? Is it the media over romanticizing it all? When in reality it's not all that great and ya really should be focusing on school and skiing? Jah feel?
Someone help me understand kids these days.

There are definitely a lot of successful relationships that start around the age of 17 or 18 but I agree... most of them end up in ruins and the whole school gossips about who broke up with who and all of that garbage.

The internet has completely changed how the entire social system works and it is pretty disappointing. Just look at how the older generations turned out without electronics... plenty of 50+ year marriages, disciplined, hard-working, overall pretty happy. Now think about how this generation will end up in 50 years. Its going to be UGLY. Without the internet, things would continue like they have for so many hundreds of years. But this is the first group of humans that have been exposed to the new technology and bullshit. Its just so different. Instead of learning from their parents, kids are learning much of what they know from their friends online.

This thread though, good job OP. I can't wrap my head around people who be in relationships just for the sake of being in a relationship. I hate how society has portrayed love into something it isn't. Having sex is to be with the person you love, but society makes it seem like a game - it isn't. Thanks OP I understand you.

Being in a relationship is cool and all but not extremely important in my opinion. I'm about to go all girly in this post and I'm sorry but whatever.

It's nice to have someone you feel you could do anything with. It's great feeling loved and being in love. Being able to do stuff for your significant other is awesome and having that favor returned is cool too.

Sometimes it's a security thing. Girls or guys feel like they need to be in a relationship to prove to themselves that someone else cares about them enough. These are usually the people posting anything and everything about their relationship all over the place. Those people who feel like they always need to be in a relationship fall into this category as well.

I don't get why people are in a rush to get into a relationship or feel like they need to be in a relationship at all times. I like having space and being independent and I think it's important for everyone to be independent in some type of way. Feeling like you need a man( or woman) by your side at all times is really unhealthy for both involved.

IMO, about your thread, its movies. Kids watch movies, they want what they see in movies, they see love, they want love. And not just normal relationships, they see perfect ones and that's where problems arise. As you get older you mature more and realize most of that shit doesn't matter and its not so much finding the perfect boyfriend or girlfriend, its finding someone that isn't fucking crazy.
