So people post all these memes, articles, and whatever about how they need guns to protect themselves against the government and what not.

Saw one that said "I don't need a gun or want a gun, but I have a gun and if the government ever says I can't that's when I'll need a gun" or something like that. It's a nice sentiment, the old cowboy standing up to the evil lawman to take back the town kind of deal.

At the same time, when the fuck is anyone ever going stand up to the government with their guns? I'm not saying they should or shouldn't just that it's something I can't really see happening. At the same time they're bitching about how they need guns to protect their freedoms, they're voting/supporting the people who are oppressing them and stripping them of the freedoms that they supposedly need guns to protect.

If you can't even stand up to the government with a ballot, you sure as fuck aren't going to do anything constructive with your guns.

Just sayin

Is this better? Neither of them are directly in the constitution. Same sex marriage could be inferred from the 14th. In a perfect world concealed carry would be a great thing, but like many things it has its flaws. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it needs to be very difficult to get a license. I'll admit to not knowing the process as I assume it differs state to state. Sorry for trying to have a conversation with the almighty Frenchy.

Why do states differentiate between concealed carry and open carr?. If I'm going to kill a bunch of people, I probably don't care about having an illegal concealed carry on my rap sheet. Banning concealed carry seems like it does nothing but prevent law-abiding citizens from being armed. Either ban guns completely or don't limit concealed carry at all.

So we should just do nothing to try and stop the problem because there are other, more difficult ways to possibly accomplish the same goal? I know the problem is crazy people with guns. How many massacres has Australia had since they've made stricter gun laws?

We are talking about the USA here, one of the most free of the world in respects to firearm ownerships. As for overseas, sure they have stricter gun laws correlating to fewer firearm incidents, however as the case with the uk being higher violent crimes/ murders with knives. Most everything can be used as a weapon, again it is the intent of the perpetrator that is the soul issue. It should not be mandated to jump through hoops to get firearms, states should handle there own. Even then, you can get unregistered firearms, or middle manned supply.

It may not be that bad, but we would have to compromise our rights as Americans. That's life, sometimes shitty things happen. We cope and move on. Essentially this issue of regulating a tool creates a void in power from the individual being able to defend them self and family. Good for Australia if it works for them, the US has a problem seeing eye to eye with the international community on the topic of firearms. That's why we have the 2nd amendment and it will not be infringed upon. Regulated firearms are a touchy subject because it is a boundary for some. What would the next regulation be... caliber restrictions, gun powder limitations, quantity of avaiable ammunition/reloading supply?
Don't intend to rant, this topic has taken a lot of scrutiny lately and it rubs me the wrong way.

But you're wrong just look at the statistics of how many people died in gun deaths a year in America compared to all the other countries. Also the 2nd amendment is an amendment and it can easily be changed thats why its called an amendment. So other than a ton of fallacies and a piece of paper do you have a valid reason that we should give anybody a gun without a background check?

Do you realize how terribly that point supports your argument? If 0.5% (number you provided) of gun related deaths are accidental, you're telling me that 99.5% of gun related deaths are pre-planned school shootings/massacres/gang violence. That doesn't seem like a problem to you?

We are comparing deaths contributed to apples vs oranges at this point. Yeah, they don't have guns so fatalities are attributed to being beat to death with blunt objects, stabbed, slashed or whatever else can be lethal.

I see the point your trying to make, however America is a high violence outlier with potential influence from surrounding areas. Take away guns and it would probably rank 4. From the source you provided, lets look at surrounding areas. Mexico 22, Jamaica 39, Dominican Republic 22, etc. There is a lot of violent industry which exports to the USA, conflict arises where there is high profit on illegal markets (i.e cocaine). Homicides and oraganized crime escalate the rate. Disputes involving the run of the mill jim and john getting into it and john getting blasted are low.

Actually 53.8% of all murders in the US are done by someone they know. Wouldn't really classify that as low.

I don't try to tell you who to marry (I support gay marriage...it's not for me but who am I to tell you what you want), whether to have that kid or not (also pro choice), or a number of overly intrusive opinions and gov't policies. Same thing goes for guns. Who are you to tell me whether I can or cannot have a firearm to protect myself? Criminals possess guns regardless of laws in place, so those laws just disarm the law-abiding citizens who are meant to be protected. Why do so many highly publicized shootings happen in so-called 'gun-free zones' and why can't people see a correlation? More 'gun-free zones' and gun control laws do not equal a safer society.

My rant is over. People can believe what they want to believe, just please don't try to infringe on the ability to protect myself.

that guys arguments were being nitpicky about small details that didn't really matter. A couple made good points, but the majority didn't do squat.

If you do everything right with guns that's great.

If not, not great.

In quite a few states it's completely legal to buy a gun with no paperwork privately (changes from state to state) which is kinda worrying.

Shitty people who leave their rifles lying about their house puss me off. It is the reason why it is easy for unstable people to get guns (a safe isn't that expensive)

I need to defend my home is bullshit. You do not need a ar-15 to defend your house unless it's from a invasion. Its called an assault rifle for a reason, and any officer who has trained for urban combat, will tell you that a long rifle is horrible for close quarters (home).

I own guns. They're fun to take to the range and it does make me feel safer that I have a handgun close by my bed to defend myself if needed.

There's no need to arm yourself to the teeth to protect yourself from government. If you wanted to do that learn about politics and economics and vote.
