Like why? I could see if a northern state was flying it...

It's a symbol of southern HERITAGE, not hate. Maybe to some retarded white trash fuckers. But it is flying high at the SC capital building, not because of racism, but to remember those that laid down their lives to stand for what they believed, for states rights. NOT only because of slavery.

There were tons of FREE slaves that fought for the south during the civil war, with many African Americans in the Sons of the Confederacy. Look it up if you want.


You're all fucking stupid if you think the flag is a symbol of racism just because the KKK uses it, obviously it's fucking dumb for anyone in the north to fly it. That's a no-brainer.

But you do try to identify with them, on your twitter you said you wish you were alive when NASCAR was still bad ass, and tweeted a photo of a driver holding the confederate flag. You tweeted a photo of a shirt that uses the confederate flag as a template for their design and you also retweeted a bunch of Ted Cruz tweets about the confederate flag.

You've been proved wrong in your defence of the confederate flag in this thread. And yet you still refuse to accept that it's deeply ingrained within racism. Points have been made that the south only flew it when the civil rights era started as well as quotes from direct creators of the flag. I know during discussions on opinion you should always try and avoid telling the other person they're wrong. But in this case, you are wrong.You might as well argue that 2+2=5 when the whole world knows it equals 4, that's pretty much the exact same thing as saying the confederate flag isn't racist.

And with regards to trans people, that's a completely different topic. It's not a choice, like defending the confederate flag is. It's who they are. One study published in the Journal of Neuroscience identified networks in the brain associated with gender.

That's actually wrong. Anthony Johnson was the first person in America to legally own slaves. Slaves were in America since 1619, when the first Dutch ship came with Africans on it.And blacks did not fight for the south, I have addressed this already and they were not allowed to fight for the south until about 3 months before the war ended. It's laughable that in the face of facts by confederate generals themselves you still think that blacks fought for the south.

And what I mean by that is you try so hard to identify with the culture of the south. With NASCAR, Jawga boyz, dip, defending the confederate flag, etc, etc. Much like a white kid trying to identify with black culture.

Confederate Maj. Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne proposed enlisting slaves. When Confederate President Jefferson Davis heard the suggestion, Ash wrote, he "not only rejected the idea but also ordered that the subject be dropped and never discussed again in the army."

But after a little bit of investigation on that image, that is an image of Andrew and Silas Chandler. Andrew was the slave owner of Silas and when Andrew enlisted as a private in 1861. Silas accompanied Andrew into service as a body servant, and this is where the myth that blacks served in the military comes from. Silas was just one of many slaves that were issued confederate clothing. It was common for the confederacy to issue uniforms as it helped identify them as slaves.

Frenchy, in what universe does it make sense for ANY slave to FREELY join the army that subjugates them? You can say the words, but it's a massive contradiction and doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

If a country forces a race to be their slave labor, said country is for sure as shit not going to waste "precious white lives" on the front line. Slaves are told to do what their masters command and a lot of slave owners will for sure force some of the slaves to fight, and for sure against their will with threats of torture, killing loved ones/friends or the person next to them (as the Romans used to).

If you think those pictures represent people who freely chose to fight for their racist, frequently torturous and vicious masters who all clearly thought that slaves' lives were worth less than their own, you are fucking insane dude.

See Frenchy, I've given you sources that dispute your claim that blacks fought for the south. You're just spitting out what your racist friends in the south say so they can downplay the whole issue on the confederate flag being racist. If you get an answer wrong on your test do you go to your teacher and try to dispute why that answer is right when it clearly isn't? Because that's what exactly you're doing now.

AFRICAN AMERICANS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY.

THEREAD WERE SOME SLAVES THAT WERE FORCED INTO THE ARMY, BUT THEY SERVED IN POSITIONS SUCH AS COOKS, STEWARDS, ETC. THE ONES THAT DID WERE SLAVES WHO HAD NO OTHER CHOICE.

AND DO YOUR RESEARCH. THE SOLDIERS IN THAT PICTURE FOUGHT FOR THE UNION ARMY, AND THE UNIFORM WAS A LIGHT BLUE.

Today I saw three instances of veterans forcing people to take confederate flags down. It made me smile. It should tell you something Frenchy that if the men and women defending the freedoms of the u.s. think it is a representation of a dark period and should be forgotten. And before you jump on and say they were just dumb people from up north who don't actually live in the south (sound familiar?) one was from Florida and the other two were from Alabama.

FRENCHY! THE CONFEDERATE REPRESENTS ONE OF THE WORST PERIODS IN AMERICAN HISTORY. WHY WOULD YOU WANT IT AROUND? IF YOUR ANCESTORS DIED DEFENDING THIS FLAG THEN YOU SHOULD BE UPSET THAT YOR ANCESTORS WERE GIAN TURDS.

Less than 5% of American families owned slaves prior to the civil war and of the states that actually succeeded, 26% actually owned slaves. The barbaric ways of the south was really the barbaric ways of rich plantation owners.

I never said there were not any liberals from the south. I was stating that because if I hadn't you would have imediatly jumped to the "well there from the north" all I was doing was showing that other respectful people, also from the south that wants the flag, disagree without it. the swastika is actually a symbol good fortune, luck and well being in countries like India and Nepal. It has symbolic and important meanings to both the Hindus and the Buddhists.

The nazis were just awful people and changed the meaning from a symbol of good fortune and well being to a symbol of hatred and fear

People also dont realize that the Nazi swastika rotates the opposite direction from the original. But yeah, just them using it as a symbol for their cause pretty much ruined its use for anything in the future. It's not always what it represents, but what its perceived to represent that causes problems.
